Shadows

I have felt the shadows

Scratching at my life

Tearing through the surface

Breaking me again

I was left alone

Empty with no home

The gray consumed my life

The chains held me back

I have felt the shadows

When I wake up and crying

Wishing to go back to sleep

Where the monsters will never reach

I have felt the shadows 

They follow me around

No one else will see them

Crawling on the ground

Pulling at the carpet

Underneath my feet

Making the wind blow

So fast I can't breathe

I have felt those shadows calling out my name

I have felt those shadows

Drowning me again

Washing out my color

Draining all my time

Making me feel dead inside

I have felt those shadows

Forcing me to lie

When you saw my eyes

You thought that they were black

But when you looked closer

You saw the dagger in my back

Now I may be too broken

To stand on my own feet

But when I am with you

The scars aren't so deep

You have felt the shadows

Crawling on the floor

They were in your room

Every night to make you sore

But when we are together

Those shadows they all go away

Now that I have found you

I won't take my life away

Yes we know the shadows

But we have seen the light

Yes we have scars

Now when I see your eyes they're stars

Now that I am safe

The shadows go some other place

Now that we are free

I won't let them get you if you don't let them get me
