Labels. Whether your popular, a nerd, a druggy, a player, or not noticed at all. People will judge you. It's just the way this high school and the world works. You're either at the bottom or the top, and to me either way was stupid.
I'm Lauren Williams, and I guess you can say I'm not that popular. Sure I have friends, a boyfriend, and I'm not picked on or anything like that. But out of everyone in my school, I wouldn't rank so high in the social scale.
I run a hand through my messy hair as I study my masterpiece. I'm not done with it, I'm actually just getting started on the outline. I don't have a name for the soon to be colorful and bright project. But I'm working on it.
Art probably is my number one passion. No, it's my soul. I know that probably sounds crazy and junk. But it is the only way I like to express my soul. Every brush and color placed on a piece of paper or whatever, is me expressing myself. Usually full of color, but sometimes dark and mysterious.
Once I get started I'm lost. Barely anyone can pull me back to earth. I can get so lost in my work that hours and hours of sketching and painting can feel like seconds.
Even in this loud class full of annoying kids. I still tried to focus on my work. Since I'm listening to my music, I turn the volume up a little to tune everything out.
Unfortunately, somebody had to interfere.
"Miss. Williams, the bell has rung. You may leave." My art teacher, Mrs. Carson says.
I nod and take my ear buds out. I slowly gather my things and put away the supplies. Mostly because my next class was science, and I could care less if I was late to that terrible class.
After picking up all my stuff I make my way out of the classroom. I decide to stop at my locker so I can put a couple of my things away.
"Hey girly! I haven't seen you in like... an hour." My best friend, Jen, teases.
"Hey! We got any plans after school?" I ask, as I place things into my locker.
"I was thinking we could go to the Mall. We could have a sleep over at my house. Watch scary movies and all that stuff." She suggests.
I guess that sounds like fun. Plus me and Jen really need to have another sleep over. Let's just say our sleep overs are always a party. We are either laughing our ass's off, or getting into trouble.
"Yeah that sounds great." I smile. "Do you need a ride after school or...?"
"Yeah that would be nice. Plus I don't think I could sit in that stinky bus one more time." Jen cringed at the last part. I just chuckle.
"I'll meet you there after class. I have to head to Mr. Nelson's class. Don't want to be late... again." I smirk.
"See ya." Jen says, turning with the whip of her hair.
I also begin to walk to class. Halfway through the hall, I felt someone grab my hand.
I turn to come face to face with my boyfriend, Cameron Dallas. I huge smile forms on my face as I see his beautiful face.
"Cam!" I gush, as I rap my arms around him.
"Hi Lauren." He chuckles as we pull away, and grabbing my hand again. "Walking to class without me I see."
"Sorry, I didn't see you."
"Its okay."
We walk into a load and wild class. Everyone was talking or goofing off. Airplanes were thrown and crumpled up pieces of paper.
Cameron let's go of my hand and makes his way over to his seat. Which is ironically by his best friends Taylor, Gilinsky, and Nash. They were the most popular boys in the school. They were those boys that every girl wanted, and every boy wanted to be. I know it's cheesy, but it's true. It makes me wonder how I got Cameron.
I sit down in my seat that was across the aisle from the guys.
I wasn't as lucky with partner chose. I was paired with Matt, one of the school nerds. I try talking to him, since he sits by me, but he is super shy and quiet.
He had on a plaid button up, khakis, vans, suspenders, and these big old glasses. Matt sits there and reads out of the text book, while everyone messes around by him.
"Okay boy and girls! Settle down!" Mr. Nelson shouts over the noise.
Everybody quickly settles into their seats and quiets down. The teacher sits down as well and pulls out his attendance sheet. He calls out everyone's name, including mine, and everyone says 'here' or 'present'. Once he was done he claps his hands together, and grabs another sheet.
"Okay class. I was thinking it was about time for something new. Like a new seating chart..." He says. I few yeahs and couple groans were heard throughout the room. I honestly didn't mind tho, since Matt never talks to me, it might be nice.
He starts telling everyone where to sit. Nash got sat by a perky blonde, that he instantly started flirting with. Taylor got a spot next to poor Matt. I feel bad now, because Taylor always picks on Matt and his friends. I'm not one for bullying, and now I wish we didn't move. But on with the subject.
Next, Cameron was put by Gilinsky which didn't surprise me one bit. After everyone was seated, except me Mr Nelson says, "Lastly, Miss. Williams you will be sitting next to Mr. Mendes in the back."
I nod and make my way to my spot. Shawn was already there, writing down the notes from the board.
He was one of Matt's friends. Or what everyone calls him, just another nerd.
I don't really talk to him that much though. Sure I have before like in middle school we were science fair partners. That's when I first meet him. Shawn was a real sweetheart back then. I've talked to him multiple times after that, but he's always so shy around me or anyone for that matter.
Luckily he was good at science, because I sure wasn't.
"Today guys, we are going to be starting our big middle of the year project. You will have to pick a topic of something we have gone over, and will research it. Of course you will be partnered with the person next to you." Mr. Nelson goes on about what we do and everything like that.
I tune out after a bit and just draw into my paper. I always get so bored in this class, so that must be why I ended up drawing a monkey in a cowboy hat, eating a pineapple while riding a llama. Weird.
"Okay, now you can start brainstorming with your partners." Mr. Nelson says snapping me from my weird drawing.
I sigh and turn to Shawn. He just sat there writing something down, pushing his glasses up his nose.
"Um- you want to start?" I ask.
Shawn shrugs his shoulders and scoots away a little.
"Is that a no?"
Still no answer.
"Are you gonna answer?"
No answer.
Why isn't this kid talking to me?! It is getting annoying.
"Well, if you don't want to start now... we can go to my house. Or yours of course."
This time, Shawn sighs and gives me a paper. I scrunch my eyebrows together and grab it from his hand. I open the letter to find a address and some writing.
Come here at about 5:30. It says.
"Okay then..." I sigh as I stuff it into my pocket and continue to draw my monkey.
Oh god. This was going to be a long project if Shawn doesn't talk to me. I wonder why he isn't talking? Maybe he will talk at home. I'll have to see when I go, I guess.
