When The Walls Come Down

8. Green eyes and freckles and your smile

Taylor's birthday arrives sooner than expected and before she can even open her eyes she hears Austin and Selena jumping on her bed and signing happy birthday. Her brother and her best friend make her breakfast and take it to bed where they eat it together. Taylor's parent will arrive by lunch time since they couldn't fine any other flight earlier but they are going to stay some days with them so Taylor doesn't care if they arrive a little late on her birthday. After breakfast Taylor takes a shower and get ready so when her parents arrive everybody is ready to go to the restaurant. Selena notices that Taylor is kind of nervous walking around the house and look a lot to her phone and it takes her a while to realize why Taylor seems so focused on her phone instead of herself and her birthday.

-Stop looking at your phone, she's probably working- Selena says then Taylor looks at her phone for like the tenth time.

-I... it's... I was just checking my email- Taylor lies not wanting to admit that she has been in fact hoping that Karlie texted her.

-You are a really terrible liar Taylor- Selena laughs before getting up- come with me, I have something for you.

-A present?- Taylor asks excited following her.

-Kind of- Selena smiles looking for something on her room- well i wasn't supposed to give you this until tonight but I guess it wouldn't do any harm- Selena finally grabs a box from her closet and turn to look at her friend- this... this is from Karlie.

-What?- Taylor asks confused.

Flashback

Karlie stands in front of Taylor's house and knocks on the door. At first there's no answer but after some minutes Selena finally appears and opens the door.

-Hey- the girl says surprised.

-Hi!- Karlie smiles- I told Taylor I would come to say goodbye before going to Australia.

-Sure come in- Selena says stepping aside- she's in her room, I'm going to call her.

-Wait- Karlie stops her- I want to talk with you first.

-Oh.. yeah.. sure- Selena says closing the door.

-Look I know we haven't been on good terms lately with the fights and what I said to Taylor at the charity event and...

-If she has forgiven you for that then I don't have anything else to say- Selena interrupts her.

-Okay I appreciate it but i want to say I'm sorry anyway, I was a jerk and you have always been really nice to me so I'm sorry if the day you came with Austin to my place I yelled at you-Karlie apologized.

-Thanks for the apology, it honors you- Selena accepts relaxing her attitude.

-Well and... I actually want to ask something else to you- Karlie asks.

-Tell me- Selena says curiously.

-Taylors birthday is next week and she told me she wanted me to come and celebrate with you guys but I'm going to be in Australia so... I've bought her something and I was wondering if you can give it to her on her birthday as a surprise- Karlie explains handing Selena a box- she was kind of disappointed when I told her I won't be here so it's my way to make her a little happier that day.

-That's really cute and considerate- Selena admits surprised accepting the box.

-Yeah well... she deserves it, she has been an angel lately taking care of me and worrying about my family and everything- Karlie explains- I wanted go do something nice for her too.
