"I don't think we're supposed to be in here. They're not done with the investigation yet." I said quietly as Chris knocked the hinges off of my front door. I looked around seeing the cars passing by at nearly twelve at night. We pushed our way through the yellow tap and looked around my house. "When I said we should do our own private investigation, I didn't mean in this kind of way." I sighed. There were lots of things out of place that the police didn't even bother to put back in their original place.
"And you didn't have to break my door like that."
"I'll pay for the repair." He mumbled flashing the flash light around. The air was filled with dust like it's been ages since someone lived in my home.
"I really don't understand what made you want to come late at night- we had literally all day to do this." I rolled my eyes mentally and he smacked his lips and flashed his light quickly in my face.
"Chris chill-" I say covering my eyes.
"You gon' either stand here and berate me about my choices or we're going to get to the bottom of this."
"You're just extra as fuck is all I'm saying." I push the flashlight away from my face and made my way past him. Just for an extra topping for him have his last say, he pinched my ass and laughed.
"Relax and keep an eye out for any clues or anything out of the ordinary. We'll probably pick up on some shit that they missed." He said holding his flashlight towards the staircase. I nodded my head and looked around my kitchen area turning on the light. Since nothing seemed to be missing from there, I went over into living room area. Out of instinct, something told me to retrace my steps so I did. I checked cabinets and the storage closet that I had. There were hand-prints on the windows that seemed fresh.
beep.
beep.
"What the fuck." I said to myself trying to figure out where the sound was coming from. It sounded like a timer, but I wasn't really sure. "You have some things missing up here!" Chis yelled from upstairs. I could hear him coming down the stairs.
"What the hell is that?" Chris ask loudly. I glared at him.
"You don't have to be so damn loud. " I say in agitation. He laughed.
"I don't know what it is, but it is getting annoying."
"Did the cops leave something behind?" He asked and I just raised my shoulders. We nearly tore the house apart trying to figure where was the noise going on.
"Just so you know, I changed your lock." I thought about the first time I moved into this house. August changed my locks but I never really questioned him on it. Normally you change the locks just in case the previous owners had a spare key or for other safety reasons but, August changed them for his purposes only. He wanted to keep an eye on me, but for what reason? That explains how he got in without any warning that day while I was out on a run with Chris. What was he doing in my house though? That's when it hit me. My eyes wandered over to the fireplace I had. Above it was a carved area that held small things like souvenirs I owned or colored glass just for looks and right next to them, I spotted a small red light blinking on an off. That's when my eyes widened.
"Cameras." I breathed rushing over to reach it.
"What?"
"Cameras Chris. He's watching us, now. They won't last long because the batteries are dying. Check the smallest but obvious spaces. He's hid cameras all over my house." I snatched it down and stuffed it in my pocket.
