Fall, 2009
"Aubrey..."
"Hm?"
"Let me see what you did for your English essay."
I looked over at August who was staring at me with a 'Yeah, I said it' look.
"For what, so you can copy it?"
"Nah, just to get an idea." He said playing with the hair on his chin. I dug through my other papers pulling it out.
"Make sure to reword yours." I said handing it to him, meaning that he was going to copy it anyways.
"I will mom." He replied sarcastically and I hit him with my feet on my thigh.
"You gon' make me mess up my handwriting."
"What handwriting? You barely even write." I teased while looking at him and he looked up at me with an abrupt look on his face. I busted out laughing.
"I know yo ass ain't tryna to clown." He said with a smile forming at the corner of his lips.
I scooted closer, placing my legs on top of his thighs holding my hand out.
"Let me see what you originally wrote."
"Mmmm, I don't know about that." He said.
"We're friends for a reason August." I said and he nodded, agreeing.
"I won't judge you...just let me sneek a peek." I suggested.
"Ight, but don't laugh." He said pulling it out and handed it to me.
"I won't, promise." I snatched it out his hand and he looked at me like i was crazy.
"Damn girl, excited much?" He chuckled..
"Now I can see what's going on through that head of yours." I tapped his head and he swatted my hand away.
Selling a dream.... Every rose needs some rain sometimes....knowing it wouldn't be easy when your trying to be the greatest...the deeper I read, I looked at him a couple times in awe, trying to see if these words described him.
"You seem quiet over there..."
I thought I heard him say something, but I didn't really pay attention.
Inhale... it's her first time..
I breathed slowly, feeling something caress my thigh. Looking down, it was his hand.
"No, stop." I said laughing and I moved his hands from my thigh, continuing to read his paper.
"Wow..." I said quietly, once I finished.
"What? Is it bad?"
"No, it's actually good." I stated flipping the pages over to see if there's a back to it.
"So no changes needed?"
"No...even though it's deep as hell." I stated. He looked at me with a straight face.
"But I mean, it's good. I don't see why you wanna copy mines."
"I just don't want people to think I'm weird.." he confessed.
I gave his paper back. "Don't worry you're not. If they think any different, just know I see you for you."
"Ya know, I-"
My phone blared loud, cutting him off. I saw it was my mom calling signaling that I was late.
"Shit, I gotta go." I quickly got up putting back on my shoes and gathered up my work.
"You not gon' give me a hug before you go?" He said slightly smiling. I shrugged, giving his a quick hug. He felt so warm like he was my safe haven.
"I gotta go now, or she's gonna kill me!" I said pushing him off some and grabbing my car keys. He pulled me back my arm.
"Just stay for a couple seconds, please? I'll take the blame for you being late."
Letting out a sigh, I turned around to face him.
He moved my hair behind my ear and began to caress my cheek with his thumb. As I studied his features, I didn't realize how attractive he was until now.
"What?" I asked softly. He stepped up closely, lightly pressing his body against mine. I tensed up a little feeling his hands travel down my body.
He buried his head in the crook of my neck, placing soft kisses on it. This feeling that I've never felt before rushed through me. He then pushed me on the wall.
My heart started to pound quietly. He chuckled, pecking my lips a couple times. He gently grabbed my face and smashed his lips into mine; by instinct, I kissed back. I stood on my tip toes, wrapping my arms around his neck.
Pulling away, it felt I was in a daydream.
"So I'll see you tomorrow at school?" He asked and I smiled,
"Maybe..." I replied while blushing.
"Bye."
"Bye August."

While walking out, I heard footsteps that seem to be too far. I didn't read pay that much attention to them, until they quickened. It sounded like someone was in a hurry. So I rushed to my car and hopped in.
Before I could start up my car, I saw something move in the front of my eyes. I paused, looking up slowly seeing a figure moving through the bushes on the side of August's house.
"What the..." I said quietly squinting my eyes some.
As I looked closer, she stepped into the light beside his house looking around carefully. I saw that she had pretty long hair, she wore a winter outfit along with a bright red scarf that stuck out to me.
I started to get out to see what she was up to, but she moved quickly up August's steps before knocking on his door rapidly. Within seconds, he opened it with a smile, letting her in and looking around in the dark before backing back up into the house completely shutting the door.
"What did I get myself into?" I mumbled to myself thinking of the kiss. I shook my head and started up my car and drove out into the night constantly thinking about the situation.
After that night, everything seemed to have gone back to normal like nothing even happened. Maybe I overreacted? The kiss just got to me because I was female, and we're known to be emotionally unstable. I didn't think anything about it until weeks later the mystery girl went missing. After a couple of days of searching, she was found dead in the woods, a mile away from August's house.
