:9: The Plan
“Wake up.” I flutter my eyes open to Camic’s voice and his body hanging over mine. I gasp loudly, waking up Jess and Belle in the process, and scatter back.
“Never do that again!” I demand pushing myself up from the hard rock and trying to catch my breath. I was extremely petrified by what he had done and my heart still pounds from it all.
“I’m sorry; I just want to get moving as soon as possible. So everyone eat up!” he says, shoving food into our hands. I get tossed an apple and chomp away at it immediately; throwing the remains into the forest for another creature to eat at. Once we all finish eating, we pack everything back into our bags and head back out for another day.
We walk for almost another 4 hours and soon the only thing interesting is the way our feet hit the ground when leaves aren’t around. It’s the most boring thing in the world and I have no idea on how to make it any better…
“Look!” I say quietly, pointing toward a family of four deer in the clearing. They graze at the fern on the forest floor, not even knowing we exist here. Belle gives a gasp and stares heavily at them all, for usually deer don’t come around the towns we live in.
“They are so pr-“ but before Belle can finish her sentence I watch as the deer look up immediately and then turn their heads away from us and toward the other side of the forest; in the direction we would be going. Within a second they all dart away, while a flock of about thirty birds struggle out of a nearby tree; chirping and squawking. I dunk my head as the birds swoop past us all and fly up into the lightly colored sky.
“Where did they go?” Belle points out a well developed question, though it only seemed like an obvious one to her. Where did they go? Did they just all decide to run away as fast as they could or was there some unknown mystery behind what made them scared? I know it wasn’t Belle talking before, because she was only a whisper; a faint noise in the mess of this forest. Then what was it?
“They all got spooked by something or another; something in which they all wanted to hide from. What’s something we want to hide from?” Camic asks, looking to all three of us. I know the question and I know it well. We want to hide from the Guards.
I then look ahead to see our destination clear as day; only about a couple yards away, a tall fence borders the town limit lines and Guard posts line around. I don’t know how we couldn’t see it earlier!
Camic whispers for us to all get down low, for this will be the hardest of our plan. Half for we have no idea how to get around it and the other for we want any of us to get hurt.
“I can be the distraction, while you all run. I can catch up to you guys easily.” Jess whispers, standing up slowly.
“No!” I whisper, standing up to grab his arm. “You aren’t risking your life. I won’t let you.” Jess looks to me and then down to the ground.
"Then let’s use something else…” he trails off as he pulls away from me and goes to pick up a huge tree limb lying helplessly on the ground.
“Are you crazy? What do you plan to do with that thing? Whip them to death?” I ask holding his arm back from going anywhere.
“No… I plan to distract them, not whip them to death,” his voice is raised a bit and I realize I’ve angered him with doubting his smarts. I sigh and then nod for him to continue. “We’ll throw this stick over for them to think it’s a human and then we’ll run.” my mouth might be hanging open, but I don’t care. Jess has just said the stupidest idea ever; the Guards might as well just think it’s an animal considering we are in the forest.
“That won’t work.” I retort, grabbing the stick and throwing it back to the ground. “It’s the stupidest idea ever and you’ll most likely end up killing us all!” I was starting to get really carried away and so I’m glad Camic pulls me down to him kneeling on the floor and locks me in his arms.
“Relax Carnate,” Camic whispers into my ear, making me even angrier. How can he just expect me to relax? I don’t relax…ever! I’m always high strung about everything and nothing seems to help me…relax.
That’s when I start to groan out in pure torture, I don’t want to wait any longer to know what our plan is! I want to know what it is now!
“You’re not listening to me are you?” Camic whispers again. I shake my head slowly, but stop as I feel his warm lips touch my neck. That little touch made a huge difference and it felt like a flame had ignited me, sending light in every which way. I let out a breath and then close my eyes gingerly, hoping the moment can freeze right here.
“You did that job good Camic!” Belle comes into my hearing to ruin it all, but to be truthful I forgot she was here. “She’s almost falling asleep on you.” I blush easily and then flash my eyes open quick.
“No! I wasn’t! I wasn’t falling asleep on him!” I try to defend myself, but no one seems to believe me and as usual Belle seems to win, and I never like it when I lose.
“Don’t try to fight it Carnate.” Belle responds again smiling, trying to hide her laugh. That’s when my light blows out; turning me back into the chaotic person I was once before. I struggle to pry Camic’s arms off me, to go after Belle, but he strongly holds me back.
“I will get you Belle Layton!” I taunt giving her the eye.
About twenty minutes pass and soon everyone seems at peace with each other…except for the fact that I will get Belle sooner or later.
“I’ve got a plan!” Camic says softly. He lets me out of his grip and stands up slowly, pacing a bit. “A distraction is good, but we need something that will make the Guards believe it’s actually a human. We need to say something, but we need to make it seem like it came from somewhere else.” I was following Camic’s idea at first, until he brought Jess into it. “Jess we’re using your plan-“
“Camic stop! I don’t want to die,” I start to yell as I cut off him in mid sentence it seemed. I stand up fast and go over to the stick in which Camic has grabbed in his hands now. I try to grab it back, but he pulls it away from me until soon enough we’re playing tug a war with a stick…yes, I know…it’s come to that.
“Let go Carnate, you didn’t let me finish!” Camic struggles to keep a good grip on the stick and soon it slides from his hands and I get thrown back, crashing into a rock hard tree. I let out a gasp of pain, as my head swings back from the impact and smacks the tree again; causing my eyes to black out and my world to disappear.
