:18: The Baby

I gasp awake from the darkness and fling myself up from the hard bed I’m placed in.Immediately my eyes set upon the blood streaked brick walls around me, which make me scared within the instance. Where am I? I think to myself, as I look down to notice my arms hooked up with IVs; in which I take out right away. It seems to me that I’m in a hospital room, but where are the nurses and doctors? And why am I placed on a rock hard metal bed surrounded by bloody walls? It doesn’t seem very hospital like to me.

Without another thought though, I watch as a nurse comes hammering on in through the door of the room and over to me. Her short grey hair and long white dress makes her look almost ghost like, but before I could ask her what was wrong she answers it for me.

“You shouldn’t be awake yet.” she frets, as she works on hooking the IVs back into my arm. I pull away fast though and step off the bed.

“Why shouldn’t I be awake? What happened to me? Where am I? Where’s Camic?” I ask frantically, starting to hyper ventilate as the time goes by.

“Just lie back down and we will try to sort things out.” the nurse says to me, walking over and grabbing my arm.

“No! Not until you tell me what’s wrong with me and where I am!” I yell, pulling myself away from her. She gives a long sigh, but probably realizing that I mean what I say; she gives in.

“You were badly hurt and needed to be taken care of, so the Guards brought you, Jess, and Camic, here to the Fugitive House of Correction.” she once more replies, making me afraid even more.  The Fugitive House of Correction is where people are put if arrested from escaping the state limits. Usually most never make it out alive or make it out at all.

“Wait, why did they want to get me taken care of? They killed everyone else, why not me too?”

“They had orders to keep you alive specifically.” she replies, immediately shocking me.

“Why? How do you know about all this?”

“I don’t know everything sweetheart, but I do know that the Guards who arrested you gave me a report based off what had happened to you.” the nurse replies, coming back over to me. “Now for that IV.”

“Wait,” I fret, as I jump back a bit. “one more question since you seem to know about me from that report…where’s Camic, and Jess?”

“A couple rooms down, we will bring you back to him once you are recovered.”

“No, no please. Bring me back to him now. I feel fine!” I chime, even though I feel completely drained. The nurse gives me a quick look up and down before giving in once more.

“I presume you’re right, you seem fine enough to me. And the orders are once the patient is awake and feeling better; we shall release them. I will just have to make sure you drink plenty of water for the next couple days, which should replace an IV for awhile at least.”

“Thank you.” I smile, loving the idea of getting back to Camic.

We walk only a bit further, until the nurse stops in front of a wide metal door. I gulp down and watch as she puts in the code to unlock the door, and slowly opens it up. My eyes immediately land on the dark metal walls which hold a small toilet, mirror, and sink, along with a bunk bed in which Camic, and Jess now leap up from.

“Carnate!” Camic rejoices, as he jumps from the top bunk and rushes over to me. Suddenly though I watch as the nurse places an arm out in front of me to stop Camic from running into me.

“She is very fragile, I wouldn’t dare touch her as strongly as you were about to, for it could cause even worse bruising.” Camic nods after hearing and slowly comes up to grab my hand and tug me away from the nurse. “I’ll check up on her soon.” she says before leaving with a smile and locking the door back up behind her. I wait a second before I know she’s gone and then turn to Camic.
