:7: The Kiss
The days seem to pass faster than anything else in this world, and I have officially been at Camic and Jess’s house for three weeks now. It has been the best weeks of my life since my mother’s death, and I’m so glad my father has decided not to come looking for me again. Of course the fear is always there, but I’m reassured often that I’m safe where I am, and he won’t be able to get to me.
George and Nora are once again working a longer shift at the factory, leaving us kids alone in the house for the whole day.
“Belle, don’t leave!” I whine, as I walk on over to her about to open the new door George had put in a while ago. “Why do you always have to leave?” I ask, pulling on her arm like a small child pleading with her mother.
“I don’t want to leave, Carnate, but I need to. My mom would be incredibly upset if I didn’t help her around the house.” Belle responds, shaking my hand off her arm and looking over to Camic who comes walking down the hallway from just now waking up. “Camic, get her away from me! She won’t let me go!” Belle giggles, holding me at arm’s length away, until Camic comes to wrap his arms around my stomach and lock me up against his chest in a protective manner.
“Camic, let go! I don’t want her leaving me again!” I say, fighting to get out of his arms. I have gotten a lot more used to Camic over the time I have spent with him, and now I’m not nearly as afraid of him as I was before. I can’t quite say the same about other men though… Not after my father.
“Carnate, Belle has other things she has to do. You can’t keep her prisoner in this house forever.” Camic tells me calmly, kissing the top of my head. I sigh, giving Belle a glare before she opens up the door with a grin and leaves without another sound.
“You can go back to bed, I’m sorry I woke you with my obnoxiously loud voice.” I joke, nudging him in the stomach with my elbow; making him let me go immediately.
“Well I can see three weeks was all you needed to get better, as well as get used to me.” Camic says, sitting down on the couch, as I pace back and forth in front of him.
“This is a serious matter, Camic! Belle is always gone now, what am I supposed to do for entertainment? I hate being stuck in here all day long to be ‘safe’.” I tell him, making it pretty obvious that now that I’m better, I want to get out and do things in the world…if only the risk of my dad finding me wasn’t an issue…
"Well, there’s other entertainment other than Belle you know?” Camic says, stopping me from pacing by grabbing my hand and pulling me down to him. “I’m here, remember?”
“I know, but Belle is a girl and I need a girl around here to not go insane.” I say, pushing my way up from him and pacing the floors again. All is quiet for a moment then, before a loud knock is heard from the front door. I immediately look towards Camic, before running over to open it; still being beat by him who blocks the door before I can even touch the doorknob.
“You don’t know who is out there, Carnate.” Camic says, still blocking the door from me opening it.
“It’s Belle, I know it.” I say pushing him aside and yanking the door open. To my surprise though, standing before us wasn’t just Belle, yet my father as well; holding her harshly by the arm, a knife in his other hand which is held across her throat. “Belle!” I gasp, going to help her until I hear what he has to say.“You touch her and I will kill her now.” my father says, digging the dull side of the knife deeper into her skin. “You either come with me, or your precious friend gets it.” he threatens viciously, right as I hear Jess come tromping into the room with his jacket on; about to leave for somewhere.
