Happy Reading (-:
She woke up wanting to vomit. A feeling of absolute sickness overwhelmed her. As soon as her surroundings became clearer, she looked around bewildered. Briar noticed that she wasn't in her house. A large blanket covered her lower half and she was laying down on a lounge. She sat up quickly.
Where am I? She thought. She ran her hand over the smooth beige texture of the fabric beneath her. Briar suddenly recognised it. It was Luke's. Light shone in through the wondows. What was she doing still in his house?
Someone was coming down the stairs, their footsteps pounding in her head. Although this did nothing to sooth the pain of her throbbing head, she placed the palm of her hand to her temple. She groaned underneath her breath.
The footsteps came into the room and Briar eyed a pair of black Chucks with white rubber toes. She glanced up to to see Luke. He was staring at her blankly. She took it upon herself to speak up, "why am I still here?"
"I found you in the bathroom with your head on the toilet " Luke half explained
"Wait what? That still doesn't tell me why I'm on your lounge and not in my bed. "
"You was highly intoxicated and were sleeping. " Luke's eyes wandered around the living room and landed down on his shoes "You were sleeping peacefully and I just moved you over. " Luke acted like it wasn't a big deal, but to Briar it was. He didn't have to move her.
"Well um....thanks? I guess uh. You didn't- You didn't have to do that. I could've found some kind of transportation. A friend could've driven me home or something. "Her voice was shaky. Luke's gesture left her stunned.
Luke still cares about you. Even though he tries desperately to hide from you and everyone else, he does. Talia's words were etched in Briar's mind. Pain shot through her head. She groaned with her hand on her head.
"Here take this this" Luke handed her a glass water and some aspirin. "It'll help with your headache. What were you doing with alcohol? I thought you didn't drink?"
"I don't." She accepted the pills and water and gulped down the pills. "Some guys at your party spiked my drink. I think they did the same thing to Stella's drink. Oh and thanks. "
"You're welcome. Need anything else?"
She clicked her tongue. "Yeah um can you drive me home? I don't think my dad is going to be happy that I stayed out all night. "
"Later, I don't have my car. " Luke walked away and began cleaning up all the trash that was left from the party. He tossed the cups in trash bags.
"Why not?"
"My mum's car is at the shop for repairs and she needed to borrow my car so she can go to work. She'll be back in a couple of hours. " He took the bag of trash upstairs.
"I'm surprised you didn't kick me out to be honest. " She chuckled to herself. Briar wasn't sure where Luke and her stood. Were they friends? Or just acquaintances?
"What's that supposed to mean?" Luke asked defensively, crossing his arms and looking at Briar quizzically. "Well we are friends are we?" She believed he was joking.
Briar shrugged in response.
"Briar!"
"What do you expect me to say Luke? We broke up because you cheated on me with Talia. Which didn't even work out by the way. You broke her heart and mine because you hate commitment. You can't be with someone. It's hard for me to be friends with a person like that. You toss people to the curb for no reason. " I went off on him. Could you blame me? I'm not one to be friendly with exes.
"Then what are you doing here in the first place?" Luke was now angry and in her face.
"I wanted to come to the-"
"Bullshit!" He yelled. " This has nothing to do with Talia. I meant why are you even around? All of a sudden you and your friend are at my table and you won't leave me alone. You show up everyday. What do you even want from me if you don't want to be my 'friend' or whatever?"
Briar felt like telling him the plan and exposing the truth, but for some reason she didn't. Her next words shocked even herself, "I know you cheated on me and I know you most likely don't want me back but I just.." She paused for a moment. "thought maybe there is a chance. I thought you could have some feelings for me. Please tell me I'm not completely wrong here?"
Luke didn't know how to respond to that. Did he secretly urn to have Briar to call his again? Did he secretly regret cheating on her in the first place? Did he secretly wish he was never with Talia? He always had to be cold. That's how it always was, and how it should be. However, around Briar he always treated her differently. His throat went dry when he mustered the words to speak. "You. " He cleared his throat. "You aren't wrong. I do have feelings for you still. " He sat down next to her. " I wish I could say I don't but I can't. " He sighed deeply.
"So what do we do?"
Luke fumbled with Briar's fingers, fiddling with each individual digit. "I don't know. But I do know that it's easier for me to be with you, than without you. Im better with you. I know I don't deserve you, if I could take everything back I would. " He cracked. She made Luke feel like a marshmallow Soft and crushable
She stared at Luke deeply and examined him. He was completely exposed and vulnerable in front of her. His expression was remorseful and apologetic. Their was also another emotion in his eyes but she couldn't distinguish it. Briar instantly felt guilty.
