As I walk into the room I start to become embarrassed seeing that all the students range from the age of 10 to 14. I finally pick a seat near the back of the room as class starts. “Ok well today we have a new student.” The teacher says pointing towards me.
All the kids look at me and ask the same question, “why is she here?”
“She is here because she was bitten.” The woman explains.
Making another kid raise his hand. “I thought only mates and alphas bite wolves.” The boy states in a sort of question.
“Well she wasn’t a wolf, she was a human.” She explains yet again. Then dismissing the rest of their questions. “Very few wolves can correctly minister the bite, so in other words no; none of you can turn your friends into wolves.” She says making all the students wine.
“Well first things first, we will need to see where you are.” She says addressing me, and also making all the kids line up at the door. “Follow us.” She says then quickly walks through the door.
We walk to what looks like a giant glass room. Upon farther inspection I see a sound system along with a control panel on the other side of the glass. “Ok kids get behind the glass.” She says motioning towards a door just to the right of the control panel.
As I go to walk through the door she stops me. “You stay in here.” She then slowly walks in the door and latches it behind her. I see her talking but I can’t hear her even if I try to tune in my hearing. After a few minutes I hear a click and a light flash from a small box just above the glass wall. “Can you hear me?” the teacher asks, I quickly nod my head. “Ok, I am going to give you a series of commands and you will perform them to the best of your abilities. Do you understand?” I nod my head again.
“First we are going to test all of your sense.” I see a small box slide out of the wall. “First your smell. Inside the box is one food item I would like you to focus and try to tell me what it is.” I close my eyes and focus only on the smell of the food.
“Apple slices.” I say recognizing the sweet sour sent I love so much.
“Good, next.” Another box comes out of the wall.
“Meat, pork.” I say feeling my teeth expose themselves as my stomach growls.
“Excellent.” The lady exclaims pushing a button that sends another box into the room. “This will be the last one for this challenge.”
I inhaled deeply trying to imagine the food, “it’s not a food.” I say to only myself.
“So what is it?” asks the teacher with a smile.
I inhaled again this time the sent was stronger and caused a sharp pain in my head. After a few more seconds the box is sucked back into the wall causing the pain to stop. “aconite.” I say opening my eyes. “Wolfsbane.”
“Very good.” She says then explains what exactly wolfsbane is. “Wolfsbane is also known as aconite in French. Wolfsbane is very poisonous to werewolves. It can cause a number of things from uncontrollable shifts to things such as death. In other words stay away from it at all costs.”
“Why would you make me inhale it if it’s poisonous?” I as anger building inside of me.
“So that you can recognize it if you ever need to. Now on to the next scenes, sight. I am going to choose three children and put them in the room with you. You must then turn on your sight and report the color of their auras. Do you understand?” I nod my head at the simple instructions.
Three kids walk into the room, two girls and one boy. “I want you to tell me the colors from right to left.”
I close my eyes and focus on my sight. As I open my eyes again I feel a slight stinging from the now bright light. As my eyes adjust the stinging disappears. I take a deep breath and look at the children. “Blue, purple, and green.” I list quickly just wanting to end the test.
I see the door open and the children quickly walk back in the small control room closing he door behind them. “Correct, now on to hearing. I have another teacher about 3 floors above you. I am going to give him a sentence to say aloud and you are going to try and tune into his voice and repeat the sentence. Do you understand?” I nod finally starting to recover for the headache I got from the scent of the wolfsbane.
I tune in my hearing and hear the click of the sound system cutting off. I tune my hearing in farther and hear a masculine voice “pour des ces la limite pour protéger leurs posséder pour là n’est pas puissance dans les nombres, mais famille.”
“It’s the school motto, pour des ces la limite pour protéger leurs posséder pour là n’est pas puissance dans les nombres, mais famille, for those bound to protect their own for there is power in not numbers but family.”
“You are doing amazing, for your last test I will give you two vials. Both are herbs and both have no scent, but one is found in nature and the other is manmade. I would like you to choose the natural herb. Do you understand?” I nod my head yet again.
The door opens and two glass vials are rolled out the door. I slowly pick them up as they reach my feet. I look over the container seeing letters on the outside, A and B; I pull each cork out and dip a finger into the herbs. I taste A first and then close the vial. I then taste B closing it just as I did with the first. “B.” I say giving my final answer.
I hear the door open as all the students walk out followed by the teacher. “correct.” It looks like you don’t need this class. I’m going to be taking you out of my class immediately. It looks to me like you don’t need them.” She smiles brightly at me and then continues. “having just got here I assume you have some more unpacking to do so till your next class you are dismissed from my class.” As I turn to walk back out the door I realize I only have four tests.
“What about touch?” I ask turning around.
“Oh don’t you worry that one will be covered.” She says clearly knowing something don’t.
Instead of worrying about the future I decided to stay in the present. “Weston.” I say quietly out loud hoping he is listening for me.
After a few minutes I repeat the call this time getting a reply. “Do you need something?” I hear him ask from somewhere in the building.
“I passed the little test they had set up.” I say smiling.
“How many did you get right?” he says quickly.
“All of them.” I answer.
“All of them!” I hear him yell from down the hallway making my ears throb.
“Shhh, not so loud. And yes all of them, the teacher is taking me out of the class I just wanted to tell you I’m going back to my room to finish up. So I’ll be there if you need me.” I say rubbing my ears.
“ok.” He replies quickly ending the conversation.
