Once the bell rang signaling the beginning of class, David walked me to a seat then sat in the one to the right of me. Using his fingers to make sure his brown hair was still in place. I watch him closely as he pulls his muscular arm down and smiles at me.

“Bonne classe du matin, nous avons aujourd'hui un nouvel élève. s'il vous plaît se lever Sabrina.” She says once in French then again in English. “Good morning class today we have a new student. Please stand up Sabrina.”

I stand up and simile before sitting down letting the teacher continue. “Well first things first things first, everyone turn on your hearing. Don’t tune in but just listen. Listen to the words.” I did as she said then before I realized it she started to speak French yet it still sounded like English.

“If you can understand me please raise your hands.” I raise my hand and look around to see that only David and I are raising our hands. She changes back to English, and then gave further instructions. “Clearly Sabrina and David you two are a pair. But the rest of you will need to keep trying to tune in so you can understand French. Once you do so you will be paired with someone of the same skill level.” Once she finished she asked again in French if anyone could understand her, several more kids raised their hands.

Once all the students were paired up we were given free time to talk, but the catch was we could only speak French. I first tune my hearing and try to ask what is his favorite part about going to school here but instead I said “ce qui est la partie flexible sur tirant à macreuse ici?” witch translates to what is the flexible part about pulling to scoter here.

In turn David laughs. “You’re trying too hard. Just let to words flow try to just think about what you want to say and say it.” He tries to explain.

I take a deep breath and try again. “What is your favorite part about going to school here?” I ask successfully this time.

He looks around and scoots in closer to me. “Practicing to fight against the vampires.” He says then leans back away from me as the bell rings. David ignores my questioning looks and walks out the door.
