I woke up in the middle of the night. You weren't there beside me. I assumed you were in the kitchen. You were. I went to the fridge and opened the freezer. pulling out a container of vanilla ice cream. I heard you  open a drawer and grab two spoons. I went and sat at the table, you sat beside me.  You opened the container and handed me a spoon. I scooped out some ice cream and ate it , so did you. We shared the ice cream. It was about fifteen minutes later when I put down my spoon, signaling that I was finished with it. You did the same. You got up to put the ice cream back in the freezer. I got up and washed the two spoons off. This was a normal part of our routine. We went back to bed and just laid there for a few minutes, quietly. My head on your chest, I felt your heartbeat and listened to your breathing. It  was calming. You found my hand with yours and intertwined our fingers together. You were my best friend, and I was yours. We had been through so much together. At first I thought you would drop me like a hot potato but you didn't. I was there for you and you were there for me.
