Ch. 47
~David POV~
Right when I walked in the door to grab some water, I heard a knock on the door. That was perfect timing. I was outside with Hunter, playing some ball with him. I opened up the door and was surprised to see who it was. “Peyton!” I smiled at her, “How did you get here?” She was the last person I thought I would see.
She smiled at me, but something looked a little off. She looked paler than usual, but I wanted to find out why first. “I walked… and ran” She barely got it out and looked a little frightened when it didn’t come out clearly. That would explain why she’s so pale right now. That would be a tiring thing to do, since it’s at least a ten minute drive, let alone walking and running here.
“You did what?” I laughed and shook my head, not believing she actually did that. “Wow, how did you manage to get away?” That was the other thing I thought of. She supposedly wasn’t allowed out of the house, so I’m surprised she was here.
“I just…I…” She wasn’t making sense and looked even more confused. But then, I saw a look in her eyes that said she wasn’t completely there anymore. It was like the light went out of her eyes. She put her hand to her forehead, looking up at me.
“Peyton?” I managed to ask right before she passed out. I reached out and stopped her from hitting the ground with her full body weight. Instead I lowered her down gently.
This wasn’t good. “Peyton? Hey, Peyton, wake up.” I shook her shoulder a little bit, but nothing happened.
“Mom!” I yelled into the house, not leaving her side. “Mom!” I called again, not even giving her a chance to answer me.
Thankfully mom was off today and she was home and not out running around doing errands. “What sweety?” She called from somewhere in the house.
“Call the ambulance!” I yelled. I didn’t have my phone with me and this was the worst time to not have it with me.
There was silence for a moment and then, “Honey, why? What’s wrong?” I heard footsteps behind me and then a gasp. “Oh my!” I knew she covered her mouth with her hand. “Hang on, honey, I’ll call.” She ran off to grab her phone.
“Come on, Pey, stay with me. You have to. I’m not letting you go.” I kept telling her. I was scared for her. She was getting even paler by the minute and there was not a thing I could do. If the ambulance didn’t get here soon enough then…I don’t want to think about what could happen.
Something terrible was wrong. I could tell this wasn’t just a normal passing out that she would wake up from easily. I knew it had to do with something bigger. I pulled her into my lap gently, not wanting to move her too bad. I kept rubbing her arms but her skin was feeling even colder to the touch. It was scaring the hell out of me. I didn’t like this one bit. “They should be here soon.” Mom knelt down beside me. She placed a loving hand on my shoulder. “What happened?”
“I don’t know.” There was no emotion in my voice as I stared at Peyton, in my lap, not waking up.
“She’ll be okay.” Mom said, reassuringly.
I looked up at her. “Do you know that for sure?” She didn’t say anything. “I mean, feel her, mom. She’s so cold. Look, even her skin is getting paler by the minute and her lips…” This couldn’t be a good sign. I was not about to let her lie here and die in my lap. The ambulance better get here fast!
Mom reached out a hand and sighed, “It’ll be okay. They’ll do something for her. She’ll be better before you know it.”
Finally, I could hear the sirens of the ambulance and my heart started racing even more. They were finally here, and two guys hopped out of the truck. As soon as they grabbed all of their things, they made their way to the porch and knelt down by her. “What happened?” One of them asked.
