Ch. 56

~Time skip – a few months later~

“I FINALLY figured it out!” I shouted to no one in particular.

David came walking into the room carrying a bag of chips. “What did you figure out?” He asked, popping a chip into his mouth, “A math problem?”

“No, I’ve had that done since schools been out. I did it in class.” I stated, taking the next chip out of his hand earning a glare from him. “I finally, after all this time, figured out why Tony and Amanda’s nickname is the same for me!”

“First, I didn’t even know you were trying to figure that out.” He said. “Second, because they’re both jerks? I could have told you that.”

“No, that’s not it.” I rolled my eyes. David and Tony have been on the outs lately. They have hardly talked since the day he came over after Amanda. I felt bad because I felt like it was my fault, but David said not to worry about it. He said Tony wasn’t worth it and that he had other friends to hang out with, which was true. I actually hung out with him and his other friends, Shawn and Andrew, the other day. We all went sledding, and they seemed pretty cool. They were pretty chill and laid back and goofed off just like the rest of us. “I think there is something going on between the two; I just don’t know what yet.” I finally finished my thoughts.

“I doubt it. They hated, or well, hate, each other.” David said. “And why would they have any need to gang up on you, anyway?”

I shrugged, “I don’t know.” Have I ever done anything to them? I mean, we’ve all been in school together since, like, third grade. That’s a long time to possibly do something to them. Besides, if no one bothered me, then I didn’t bother them. For the most part, anyway.

“Exactly, so it doesn’t make sense. Maybe it’s just a coincidence that they use the same awful nickname for you.”

I thought it over. Maybe I didn’t do anything to them, but, “What about you? I mean, maybe they both know that getting to me will get to you.” I suggested. “I’m not saying that you’ve done something to them, but…” I trailed off.

“No.” He said. “Well, not that I know of, anyway.”

“Hmm, I guess we’ll see then.” I said and went back to working on my English homework. I saved it for last since I hate that class. I just can’t stay focused in it.

I wasn’t going to let it go though. There had to be a reason that the two people who hated each other had the exact same nickname for me. It wasn’t a coincidence. I couldn’t just believe that, for some reason. Thankfully, at the moment, that was my only worry, though. I could handle that, unlike a few months ago when I had that pregnant dream that scared the crap out of me. Since then, I convinced mom to let me get on the pill just in case we did it again; we could be doubly prepared this time.

“Hey kids.” Linda said, walking in though the door. “Care to help a bit?” she had her arms full of groceries.

“Sure thing.” I said and got up, walking out to her car to grab as bags as I could. “Oh! BURR!!” I shouted. I didn’t grab a jacket when I walked out of the door and I had on a t-shirt since it was hot inside. I sort of forgot for a split second that there was like more than a foot of snow on the ground.

“Duh, dummy!” David said, coming up behind me. “It is kind of the middle of winter. Did you think it was going to be hot out?”

I settled for sticking my tongue out at him since my arms were full of grocery bags and I couldn’t smack him. After unloading those bags, I walked back outside to see if there were more bags, but just when I walked off the stops onto the sidewalk, I wiped out on the ice. Naturally, I started laughing at myself because only I can find a way to fall.
