Ch. 59
~Peyton POV~
Man, Christmas break always goes by way too fast! Granted, we still have until Tuesday and right now it’s Friday, but still. I know that little bit of time will go by fast. At the same time, I couldn’t wait to go back to school because that meant softball time. I was more than ready to get back into softball now that I got the okay to get back in. It was pure torture to not be able to play the ending of last season. Softball literally is my life and to not play it was annoying.
“Knock knock.” Mom said, cracking my door open.
“Come in.” I said, turning over on my bed to face where the door was and where she would be coming in. “What’s up?”
“I was just coming in to see what you were doing tomorrow for New Year’s Eve.” She said, sitting on the corner of my bed.
I moved so she would have more room. “Oh… I was planning on going to David’s but I don’t have to. I can stay here with you and we can hang out.” I didn’t want mom to be all alone on New Year’s. That’s no fun.
She smiled at me and chuckled, “No, baby, go have fun with your boy. I was just hoping that you had plans. I’m planning on going out with a couple of the girls from work.”
“That’s great! You’ll have a blast!” I smiled at my mom. “I’m glad you’re getting out with your friends again. It’s been so long since I’ve seen you do that.”
“I know. It’s nice to be back in the loop again. I didn’t realize how much time I wasn’t spending with them.” She smiled at me. “Well, hey, I have to actually get to work right now. Have fun today. I’ll see you later tonight.”
“Alright mom. Love you.” I said and leaned up to give her a hug. “Be careful getting there with this crazy weather.”
She smiled when she pulled back from the hug. “Always am.” She kissed me on the forehead before walking out of my room.
I laid in my bed a little longer, not knowing what to do for the day. I wanted to hang out with Ally or Jules, but they were both out of town for the holidays. I’m not sure what David was up to, for once. Shocking, I know since I’m always with him.
As if on cue, my phone blasted with ‘Just a Kiss’ by Lady A, telling me David was calling. I smiled and answered my phone, “Hey there.”
“Well someone is chipper today.” He teased, laughing.
I rolled my eyes even though he couldn’t see me. “Am I not allowed to be in a good mood?” I returned his teasing.
“No, of course not. I didn’t mean it like that.” He sobered up.
I laughed at how fast his demeanor changed. “I’m just kidding, babe.”
“Right. I knew that.” He said and then let out a soft chuckle. “So, what are you up to?”
“Nothing really.” I laid back in my bed and stared at my ceiling. I had all intentions of getting out of my bed, but it was just so comfortable that I couldn’t force myself out of it. “How about you?”
“Not a whole lot.” He said. “You want to hang out today?”
“Of course!” I told him. “When don’t I ever want to hang out?”
“Alright, I’ll come get you soon then. Love you.”
“Wait!” I said before he could hang up on me. “You don’t have to come and get me, I am more than capable of driving over there myself, you know.”
