Ch. 31

I instantly smiled when I woke up, feeling David’s arms wrapped around me. My head was on his chest and I could tell he was still fast asleep. I carefully untangled myself from him so that he would stay asleep. He was just as deep of a sleeper as I was, if not, deeper. I glanced back one more time at him and smiled before slipping silently through his door. I followed the wonderful smell to the kitchen where pancakes were being made.

“Morning honey.” David’s mom greeted me with a smile. Wow. It was different waking up to a mom who actually cooked breakfast. Not that I ate it much anyway.

I smiled back at her. “Morning. Is there anything I can help you out with?”

“No thanks. You can just have a seat if you’d like. Or get yourself something to drink. Just make yourself at home.” I loved his mom. I might have said that before, but I just simply loved her.  “You hungry?”

“Yes ma’am.” I said and walked over and grabbed a cup out of the cabinet, filling it with some chocolate milk. “It smells delicious in here.” I told her as I sat at one of the bar stools.

“Thank you.” She smiled at me and grabbed the butter, syrup, and powdered sugar, moving it closer to where I was. “Anything else you need for waffles?”

I shook my head. “Nope, I think you’ve pretty much got it all covered.”

“So, I’m guessing David’s still asleep?”  Linda asked while she put two waffles on my plate.

I nodded, loading my waffle down with syrup, powdered sugar, and butter. “Yep. I’m surprised he didn’t wake up when I got….” I trailed off realizing what I was saying and who I was saying it too. That’s embarrassing. “When I walked out of his room…” I could feel my cheeks turning bright red. That is not a way to stay civil with your boyfriends mother by telling her you just slept in the same bed as him.

If she realized my slip up, she didn’t call me out on it, thank goodness. “He’s a deep sleeper. He could sleep through anything. Hell, a tornado could go through his room and he’d never know it.”

I smiled around a bite of food. “Sounds about like me. But yet, if something is really quiet, then I’ll wake up in an instant and basically have a panic moment.”

This was nice. A girl could get used to living in a house like this. I feel like this was how my house was before mom and dad got divorced. I know it was like this before mom and Tim got married. Sure, we would have our fights. What mother and daughter don’t? But we still got along for the most part, and we talked and it was just fun to do things and not have to worry about someone else.

I heard the floor creaking behind me, so I turned and saw a very sleepy-eyed little boy walking into the kitchen. Hunter was rubbing his eyes with the backs of his hands, still trying to wake up. “Hey kiddo.” Linda smiled widely at her youngest. “Just wake up?”

Hunter nodded, still foggy from sleep. He looked over at me and waved before sitting down at one of the chairs at the table. Linda made him his plate and cut up his waffles and sat them in front of him. Before she walked away, she kissed Hunter on the top of his head and ruffled his hair. She just seems to be one of those moms. The kind that always keeps the house loving and warm, and would do anything for anyone, and simply has a heart of gold. No one could do any wrong, and she was just filled with so much joy and love there was plenty to go around.

I was so lost in thought, I hadn’t realized I had eaten my last waffle, so I ended up just scraping the plate with my fork; one of the worst sounds in my life. It was just as bad as nails on a chalkboard. Shudders ran down my spine. “You want another one?” Linda asked.
