Chapter 3 – Jack
I can't function normally in the morning, so I was only half present when Miss Weathers was enthusiactically talking about Napoleon Midget Bonaparte. I was looking around, glanced at Alex a few times. Him on the other hand, he was listening to the teacher. I kept looking, studying every little detail of him. I later felt a poke on my arm.
''You alright?'' Rian asked me quietly. I nodded. Then I started thinking about dad but stopped myself before it would spoil my day again, so I started paying attention to Miss Weathers. Then I thought of an idea worth trying out.
After the bell rang, I told Rian to meet me at the locker. I had something to do first.I slowly approached Alex.
''Excuse me Alex, do you have a minute?'' He turned around and just stared at me.
''Alex?'' I repeated.
''Yes?'' He snapped out of it.
''I said, do you have a minute?''
''Uhm, yeah... I have two.'' He gave me a sour grin, then turned to Zack and said to wait for him at the lockers. I could see him blush a little.
''What can I do for you?'' He asked.
''Well, I wanted to ask you, if you could help me with Algebra? Like tutor me. I have to keep my GPA up and this is the only subject causing me trouble.''
''I'd love to, ... I mean, sure Jacky...'' He was funny. ''Shit!'' He cursed to himself quietly.
''I mean, yeah, I'd be happy to help.'' I was thrilled.
''Cool, thanks man, you saved me. Here's my number.'' I said and handed it to him on a piece of paper. He took it and stared at it like I just gave him $100.
''Uhm, no problem. I will text you later.''
''Sure, thanks again Alex. You headed to the lockers?'' He nodded. ''Alright, me too, shall we?''
We walked to the lockers with an awkward silence in the air. We were both thinking what to say but nothing came out.
''See you later.'' He said and joined Zack and I kept going until I saw Rian.
''What was that all about?'' He asked.
''Nothing, I asked Alex to help me with Algebra.''
''Algebra? But you have straight A's.'' I did.
''Not on my last test.'' I was trying to convince him.
''Jack, are you up to something?'' Rian is my best friend. He's been there when Stella dumped my ass in front of everyone at school, so I always consider his opinion.
''Nothing, I just wanna see what's up.'' Lame answer, but it's true.
''Just don't do anything you might regret.''
''I won't, you know that's not my intention. I just think he'll be more himself if I ask him for help with school stuff.''
''Alright, just watch yourself.''
''I will.''I wasn't going to do anything, I just wanted to hang out with him, because something I can't really put my finger on, is pulling me towards him. Ain't nothing wrong if we just hang out, I mean he probably has a crush on the most popular girl in school but never had guts to say anything, how could I possibly hurt him? I could even help him.
