Chapter 29

Dawnpaw was about to get up but stopped as Ivypaw stalked over to her. "Follow me you need to explain everything" Ivypaw growled. Dawnpaw nodded and spotted Hazelpaw. She gestured for her to follow and followed Ivypaw. They reached a secluded part of the swamp and Ivypaw spun around, looking furious. "This better be good I got kicked out of my clan because of what you told me" Ivypaw spat.
"What do you mean?" She asked, confused.
"Poppywing and Tigerblaze overheard us and told Greenstar" Ivypaw said, her eyes still blazing. Dawnpaw took a deep breath. She didn't want to tell Ivypaw everything but she doubted Ivypaw would believe her if she didn't.
"When Amberleaf killed your father she confessed that she had killed the kits" she began. Ivypaw gasped and as Dawnpaw continued she grew more shocked. When she was done Ivypaw looked shocked beyojd belief.
"It's true" Hazelpaw said. Ivypaw opened her mouth to say something but stopped quickly.
"I need to go" Ivypaw said, brushing past them. Dawnpaw started to head back when Ivypaw looked around suspiciously. "Who's there" Ivypaw called. She saw Hazelpaw peer into a fern and take tentative steps forward. Dawnpaw sniffed the air and smelled Windpaw but her scent led back to camp.
"Whoever was here they're gone now" She said. Ivypaw continued back to camp and her and Hazelpaw followed her.

Dawnpaw twisted and turned in her nest but she could not stop worrying about Windpaw. She had decided not to go near Windpaw, sensing that the she-cat would just deny it and go away. Dawnpaw dragged herself out of her nest and exited camp. She waved her ail in greeting at Sedgebush as she walked away. She saw a mouse hiding under a fern as she was walking and quickly killed it. She hunted for the rest of the night and even dared to go up a tree, successfully killing a swamp bird. When she got back to camp dawn light was staining the sky. Mistcloud nodded appreciatively at her catches and Dawnpaw felt a glow of pride as she set her prey down. She grromed herself for several heartbeats before cats emerged.
"Dawnpaw do you want to come on the morning patrol" Badgerclaw called.
"Yes" she replied and sat up hurriedly.
"Eat some prey first" Badgerclaw told her. As Dawnpaw was eating her mouse she saw Windpaw going towards the leaders den. She felt her blood freeze and fear stir inside her. It is probably for a different reason it has to be right? She thought worriedly. "Dawnpaw it is time to go" Badgerclaw yelled.
"Coming" she yelled back. She went to the patrol and followed them as they exited the camp and went towards Springclan's border. Luckily there were no Springclan cats there and Dawnpaw marked the border along with the other cats. They went to Mistclans border next and Dawnpaw marked the border there too before they headed back to camp. When they got back she they padded over to Marshstar.
"Did everything go well" Marshstar asked.
"Yes no signs of any tresspassing" Badgerclaw reported.
"Good, stay here I need to call a clan meeting" Marshstar ordered. The rest of the patrol nodded and as they walked off Dawnpaw glanced back and saw Marshstar glaring at her. She was padding over to Hazelpaw when Marshstar called the meeting.
"Do you know what this meeting is about" Hazelpaw asked.
"No, but Marshstar was glaring at me for some reason" she confessed. Hazelpaw nodde looking tense as Marshstar began speaking.
"Today thanks to Windpaw we have finally uncovered who killed the kits" Marshstar proclaimed.
Dawnpaw felt dread fill her, she knew exactly where this was going and there was nothing she could do about it. "Amberleaf has killed the kits and her daughters knew about it" Marshstar said. Dawnpaw felt grief and guilt flowing through her as everyone turned to look at them, holding expressions of shock and anger. She saw Windpaws smug expression in the crowd and felt white-hot rage burn in her.
"This is all your fault" She spat.
"We were going to tell you" Hazelpaw lied, her eyes frantic. She heard snorts of disbelief.
"And more then that they are half-clan their father is Applenose from Springclan" Marshstar revealed.
"They should both die" Someone called.
"Yeah" someone agreed. Dawnpaw flinched as Foxpaw leaped on her.
"My brother died because of your mom" She said her voice full of anger. She heard Hazelpaw say get off of her and Dawnpaw scrambled up. She saw Foxpaw swipe at Hazelpaw and land a scratch on her shoulder. Hazelpaw winced and Dawnpaw leaped forward bowling Foxpaw over.
"Get off of her" she snarled. She felt a push and tumbled to the ground as she saw Flowerstem had her tail curled around Foxpaw, holding her back. She heard Marshstars voice rise above the crowd as she said,
"No we are going to exile them" Marshstar said. Dawnpaw felt fear fill her and looked up.
"Please no" she begged.
"What about the Springclan apprentice" someone yelled.
"Ivypaw can stay if she wants but Amberleaf and her daughters need to go" Marshstar said. Dawnpaw hung her head as she walked out Hazelpaw following. She sat there for a few heartbeats before Amberleaf came out.
"This is all your fault" she exploded.
"Dawnpaws right your the reason we got exiled" Hazelpaw hissed, fury burning in her eyes.
"I am sorry my kits I didn't mean for this to happen" Amberleaf said.
"Do you think that is going to make any difference" Hazelpaw said bitterly.
"I didn't kill all the kits one of them might still be alive" Amberleaf blurted.
"Really?" She asked, her eyes narrowed to slits.
"What reason do we have to believe you" Hazelpaw meowed. She saw Ivypaw slip out of the entrance as Amberleaf spoke again,
"I am your mom" Amberleaf said. Dawnpaw was about to speak again when Mistcloud stuck her head out.
"Leave or we will make you" she snarled. Dawnpaw started walking but spun around when she realized Amberleaf was following.
"Go somewhere else we don't want you" She growled.
"B-but you wouldn't abandon your own mother right? Hazelpaw you don't want this to happen right?" Amberleaf stuttered.
"You aren't our mom and I do want you to leave" Hazelpaw said coldly. Dawnpaw spun around and started walking with Hazelpaw and Ivypaw.
