Chapter Twelve: My Last Year

April 15th, 2031

Prom this, prom that. I don't even know if I want to go to prom. Everyone's been talking about it nonstop. What's so special about prom anyways? I mean besides you dance your ass off and hang out with your friends that you may never see again. My last prom, my last year, the last time I'll see all these young faces. Prom and graduation. That's what everyone's craving, waiting for, inching their way to.

Graduation will feel like the best day of your life and prom will feel like the best night. It's not though. It's just one last time to be with your friends and be with everyone from school. I don't know what the best day of my life will be. I asked Dad when the best day of his life was and he told me, "The day I met your mother". If that's the best and I marry Stella has the best day of my life already passed me?

Is my whole life going by too quickly before my own eyes? I'm only 17 and I'm already going to graduate and have my first and last prom and I feel I've already met the love of my life. What will happen for the rest of my life? I have no idea what I want to happen. Do I even know what I want to be? Not really....

The senior counselor wants to have a little meeting with all the seniors privately to know what their goals are and how they want to accomplish them. I don't really see why he wants to get into everyone's business or how he'll remember each senior. It's mandatory though so I have to see him. I'll be seeing him on Thursday of this week since my last name starts with a C. At least he's a little organized about all this.

"How about you, Mr. Chance? Do you know what the capital to Vermont is?" Mrs. Coon asked me. I lifted my head from my desk and looked at her.

"Vermont? Yeah." I looked down at my laptop where the answers were.

"Well, lets hear it." She crossed her arms and glared at me.

"Montpelier." I stated bored. She uncrossed her arms, rolled her eyes, and turned to the bored.

I swear that lady is out to get me. I looked around the room and caught a girl staring at me. I didn't know her name or had ever noticed her before. She looked away instantly when I looked at her. I shrugged it off and started to take the small quiz we were assigned. We all had to make an 85 or above or we would all have to take it again. That really pissed me off.

Just as I finished my quiz the bell rang. I quickly got up and went to health. The last class of the day and the most fun. We took a test every Friday and that's the only paper you had to do. The rest of the time you were making projects and playing fun educational games. I know it sounds childish, but I need some fun in my day. Coach Reese is really awesome too. He always gives us these really healthy but delicious cookies his wife makes us. I usually always get raspberry or banana!

"Good afternoon, Chan!" Coach Reese's cheery voiced boomed as I entered the class.

"Hey, Coach!" I smiled as I took my seat.

I sat all the way in the back with a few friends of mine. Sometimes... okay all the time we were too loud and talked way too much. I guess we couldn't help it and it was after all the last class of the day. I couldn't wait to get out! No work today means I can get my homework done early and hang out with Kenny finally.

"Coach, what are we doing today?" My friend, James, asked. He was on Coach Reese's track team so he and Coach were fond of each other. I guess since he was the fastest on the team.
