A/N: haha. Ha. Another sad fic. Aren't I great? I tend to write sad stuff when I'm tired and I'm practically half awake while writing this soooo. And sorry if it's short. Yeah. Anyway, enjoy the story!

Boots crunch over the frosty ground, petals slowly falling to rest lightly on the grass. Footsteps stop near a gravestone and hesitate before taking the last few steps forward.

Danny sighs and carefully sets the violet flowers he had brought on the stone grave as he slowly kneels down, reading over the name with mournful eyes. He's been here many times before, sure, but it's different today. Today is her birthday. Samantha Manson's birthday. Don't let her hear you call her that though, she'll kick you even from beyond the grave. "I brought you your favorite flowers." He says, his voice already starting to quiver. "I-I made you a cake too," he chuckles quietly, "but I don't think it's edible. I may have burnt it, just a bit."

He waits, listening, hoping she would appear and tease him for his terrible cooking skills like she always did. "This is why you should let me cook," she'd say, putting her hands on her hips. "Heaven knows you'd burn down the planet before cooking something you can actually eat."

She had said something like that once. It had been her birthday that day too. Danny had tried to make a cake for her but when she got to his house the smoke alarm was going off and Danny emerged from the kitchen in a shroud of smoke. He had laughed, admitting his mistake and together they worked to make a cake that they could actually eat.

That had been a fun day. One of Danny's best memories. They even managed to get themselves in an ingredients fight, throwing batter and flour at each other till the kitchen smelled like a fire and it looked like a cake had exploded.

He sighs and tries to smile but it's a shaky one and he quickly gives up, letting his mouth drop into a deep frown. He wishes he would have told her sooner. He can't help but think about what would have happened if he had. Would she have returned his feelings? Would she have pushed him away? Would she still be alive? He sighs again and shakes his head.

Day after day, year after year. He had said nothing of his affection towards her. "I... I'm in love with you." He says to the headstone in front of him. If only she could have been there to hear it.

The silence is what does him in, nothing but the cold wind blowing through the leaves on nearby trees, and he finally breaks. He falls to his knees and cries out. "I'm sorry!" Danny yells. "Please, PLEASE come back! I can't live without you Sam!" He just wants to hear her laugh again. "I love you! God, I love you! So, so much...." He wants to see her beautiful smile that lights up the thickest darkness. To hear her teasing comments, and to hold her in his arms and know she's safe. To protect her, to love her. But he can't. Because she's gone and it's all his fault.

He cries and cries. Screaming. Heart-wrenching sobs ripping themselves out of his chest. He screams and yells her name, pleading, until his voice is hoarse. Then he just stays there kneeling, occasional sobs appearing. He stares at her gravestone. She's gone. She's dead. Sam is dead.

And she's not coming back.
