Danny wasn't really expecting that.

Okay, sure, when his mom fired off her new gun he knew he was going to be shot with the bullet. Basic logic when he couldn't move out of the way in time. He'd been shot before anyway, it wasn't that big of a deal. It hurt, of course, but he'd gotten used to it by now (unfortunately) and it wasn't anything his accelerated healing couldn't fix. What he wasn't expecting, however, was the gut wrenching and burning pain that blossomed in his shoulder and traveled throughout the rest of his body.

Danny's eyes grew wide and he opened his mouth in a silent scream, his voice catching in his throat and the pain making his thought process come to a screeching halt. He completely forgot about his mom standing right there, a triumphant smile on her face as he falls to his knees on the dirty concrete. The rocks sliced into his skin through the suit, the small trickle of blood coming from the new cuts only adding to the pain of the gushing wound in his shoulder. He wanted to cry, his eyes stinging and vision blurring. The pain from the bullet was so bad an antagonized scream itched at the back of his throat, but he just gasped in the process of releasing it, the iron smell of his own blood flooding his nose.

"Tucker, go... you need to..."

He could hear his friend's voices saying something to him, but their panicked tones are muffled. He had a brief thought of, 'am I underwater?' before it was washed away by the pain again. The world spun sickeningly as he pitched forward, but someone caught him around the waist before he could go face first into the hard ground. Danny tried to thank them, but he was pretty sure it came out more like a pained whine. His vision blurred further until he could hardly see, the world a blotchy mess, and suddenly he found it hard to breathe, like an invisible hand was wrapped around his throat and constructing his airway.

He felt a hand shake his good shoulder and a faint voice yelling something. Was it to him? The voice faded in and out, the panic in it pulling at his heart strings, but he could only really catch a few words; "Danny..... hear me! Open.... eyes, please!"

He didn't realize he had closed his eyes.

He opened them slightly, the simple act being harder than it should, and saw the blurry (concerned?) faces of what looked like Sam and his older sister, if the black and red hair was anything to go by, but quickly closed them again as a flash of light filled his vision and made his head ache. What was that? His friend's words became even more muffled and urgent, something about opening his eyes again. But he couldn't. He tried, he really did, but his muscles felt like lead and he could feel his strength pouring out along with his blood on the ground. Everything just hurt so bad, his muscles seizing up in agony.

"Open your eyes, Danny! Please-"

'I can't,' He thought.

'I'm sorry.'

"Danny!" Sam cried, her nails dug into his shoulders harshly as she shook him. She could feel his blood underneath, staining her nails and fingers, the warmth a stark contrast to his cold skin. But, no matter what she did to wake him he just continued to lay there on the ground, unmoving. 'Is he even still breathing? Oh god, please be breathing.' Her voice whispered in her head. Jazz had instructed Tucker to cover for them, shooing Maddie off, and Sam was glad the woman listened. Just in time too, Danny had changed back into his human form right after she left. Maddie would certainly be getting an earful from her and Jazz later, who shoots their own son? It didn't matter if she had no idea who he really was- not to Sam, anyway.
