Do you know what it's like to fall?

You might.

It happens in your dreams, when you're speeding towards the ground and wake up right before you break every bone in your body. You can feel the sensation of gravity pulling at you, yanking your insides back and giving you a horrible sinking feeling. It makes you want to shake like you're freezing and gives you a new appreciation of the solid ground.

But at least, you never actually hit the ground. You just get far enough till your nose is oh so close, and then you snap awake. Danny has fallen towards the ground before, he'd do it as a stunt, catch himself before he actually hit the ground and go flying back up. It always provided him with a substantial amount of adrenaline that had him jumping around the rest of the day. His friends thought it was weird, but they just didn't understand.

He loves it. He loves the feeling of gravity pulling him down towards the earth, faster and faster, the rush of the cold wind as it whips against your skin and makes your eyes water. Falling is half the reason Danny loves his flight so much. But what he doesn't like is when he's so weak, he can't change into his ghost form.

It doesn't always happen, it's rather rare actually, but it does happen. A ghost that's particularly strong will engage him in battle, and it will be a bit of a win-lose for both sides for awhile. In the end it leaves Danny weak and tired, inevitably unable to change into his ghost form. So, that brings us to his current situation.

He was fighting on a rooftop, probably not one of the best places to fight, but at least the ghost's ecto-blasts didn't destroy as much as it would if they were to fight somewhere else, like the park. They've been fighting for a while, Danny aware of his friends arriving on the street below. He's getting weaker and can feel his ghost form wavering; he'll turn back into his human form soon.

The ghost shoots a particularly hard blast into Danny's chest, and that's all it takes for him to switch back to his human form, not being able to stay ghost any longer. The ghost lurches forward to attack Danny and the halfa backs up, his foot sliding back against the cement roof. Except it didn't, because suddenly, there was no roof there.

A scream rips itself from his throat as he slides off the edge, falling fast towards the ground.

Do you know the feeling of falling?

Yes.

Yes you do.

But do you know the feeling of landing?

No.

No one does, because no one can explain the feeling. The feeling of crashing into the ground, every bone in your body simultaneously shattering upon impact. To feel your skin be ripped apart from the inside and to choke on your own blood as it drowns your senses. To hear the crunch and crack of your bones and the ground as you hit it.

To feel your life fading, your warmth literally draining out of you into the ground in pools of blood, or to hear the horrified screams of your closest friends.

It's impossible, because, how could any one explain that feeling in a way that one could understand?

The answer is simple.

You can't.
