Ivy sighs a breath of relief and runs her hand through her red tangled mess of hair, " Well at least that's over. Man, am I sure going to miss this place..."
Cilas stands up and places a hand on her shoulder, not saying a word about how bad it was shaking, they both sat there silently as tears fell down her face, " You are welcome back at anytime Ivy. We all will send you away with heavy hearts. You have done a great deed for this village and for everyone. I, thank you. Now go find Mason and see him before you go home to pack tonight." He gives her shoulder one last squeeze before he exits the village hall leaving her sitting at the table.
Ivy wipes away the tears from her eyes and stands up making her way out the doors of the village hall and is embraced with the view of their small village. She glances around savoring the view and walks off toward the stream to her favorite branch. Ivy lays on her stomach, running her hand lightly through the stream creating ripples in the water. Soon enough, she hears the footsteps of Mason approaching the stream.
"So how did the meeting go? Did you almost end up losing your tail? Were they scary? I mean I went with uncle Cilas, but I didn't see the King," Mason joked, laying on a branch nearby.
Ivy stared blankly biting her lip, " The meeting went very well. They agreed to renew the peace treaty. So we can still count on the dragons to protect us."
Mason swishes his tell around playing with a few leaves, " So what did they ask for in return? Jewels? Herbs? What? "
Ivy stayed silent for a little while before replying, " Me. They asked for me in return."
Mason's tail stops as he looks as me, " What? Quit joking around Ivy! Now, what did they really ask for?"
Ivy stood abruptly and turned to face him, " I'm not joking, Mason! In order for them to give us protection, the king agreed on the condition that they got me in return!" She punched the tree, glaring down at the water as tears began to well up in her eyes.
Mason stays quiet for a while, " No. They can't take you.. They can't take you! This is all my fault! If I hadn't have asked you to go to the meeting for me then you wouldn't be leaving... No, you can't leave. We'll run away. We'll run away together and the king won't find-" SMACK!
Ivy slowly retracted her hand as tears began to fall harder, " Stop It! This was not your fault, so don't you go blaming yourself. And I can't run away. What would happen to the village? What would happen to you?! Don't you know how hard it was to agree to this?! I don't want to leave you behind! Now if you'll excuse me I have to go pack.."
Mason grabs her hand, " Wait... I'll come with you.."
Ivy smiles sadly, " Thanks, Mason. But right now, I just want to be alone. Sorry.."
Mason nods and legs go as Ivy climbs onto the bank and walks home.
