The next few days after discovering my powers were going quite well. I had been trying to control them, with the help of Nick and Sammi of course. Nick mostly helped me keep my emotions in check so I didn't do anything stupid. Sammi was just there for moral support.

I thought I was doing a great job. I could control what I wanted to be and changed at will. Nick had been saying that I had to make sure that I didn't have another emotional outburst if I wanted to keep my secret. That was true because I was quite well known for my constant mood swings. I felt like a girl on her period sometimes.

"Hey, Nick! Check this out!" I quickly shifted into a monitor lizard.

"Dude, lizards are cool," Nick said. I nodded my head before changing back.

Our backyard had always been where I practised my powers. It was near to the forest where I also spent my time thinking. My mum grew lots of plants there, which added to the lush greenery.

~Few days later, in school~

It was quite a normal day. Everyone was doing their own thing. Jocks were busy discussing football games, prep girls were squealing over each other and swooning over the group of jocks nearby. The bullies were picking on the nerds again. I would help them out but I couldn't risk getting my face getting beat up.

I leaned against my locker and waited for Sammi to come. We usually went to our classes together.

A few minutes have passed and no sign of her. I waited for a little while more but no Sammi. She wasn't normally this late. Is she okay?

I saw a jock in the distance. It was quite obvious, he was wearing the school's varsity jacket. He was standing over a small girl. Her back was against the wall. I couldn't see who it was; I was too far away. All I knew was that she was wearing a red hoodie.

Wait.... Red hoodie? Sammi always wore a red hoodie!

I ran as fast as my legs could take me. Ain't nobody gonna pick on my best friend. Not today, not ever.

I was at least two metres away from the both of them. I was right. Sammi was being confronted by none other than Zachary, star football player and massive dick.

"Tell me nerd, where's my homework?!" He had Sammi pinned against the wall. She was quivering in fear.

"I-I swore I brought it...I must've l-lost it..." Tears were streaming down her face as Zachary closed in on her. Without thinking, I rushed at him, trying to tackle him. It didn't work obviously, and I found myself lying face first on the ground.

"What the fuck man? Oh, you're her 'boyfriend'." He gave me the sickest grin I had ever seen. I sat up and glared at him.

I quickly got to my feet and faced him. I was slightly taller than him so he had to look up at me. I bent down slightly just to offend him.

"Are you trying to make me feel short?!"

"Well no shit, Sherlock."

He scowled at me before grabbing me by the shirt. I wasn't at all affected by this.

"Listen here, Brooks. I'm only here to get my homework but this bitch thought it was a great idea to forget about it. I'm not risking another F. And I'll do whatever it takes to get what I want." Was he trying to threaten me? Or was he dead serious?
