I was too busy watching the falling sword to register what Japan was doing.

A sharp piece of metal caught my arm. It snagged my unguarded left arm and ripped the flesh open. Blood poured out.

I looked at Japan. He was holding tiny metal stars in his right hand.

He had used the falling sword to distract me while he pulled out his shuriken!

Briefly, I thought back to when I joked with him about throwing tiny knives at enemies to wound them. I never knew he would take my idea seriously, eventually developing it into a deadly weapon.

Japan held his stance and continued to fight. I ignored my throbbing arm and prepared myself for his next onslaught.

Japan slashed wildly at me. That's weird. Usually, Japan is very accurate in his hits. He might be planning another sneak attack.

I was right. As soon as I had that thought, Japan flicked his wrist.

I saw a shuriken coming towards my forehead in slow motion. Ok, use your sword and tap the first one away and-

I pushed one of the shuriken away, horrified to see another coming towards my head at full speed.

What?

Japan had concealed the second shuriken behind the first, so that my line of vision wouldn't spot the second.

I threw myself to the side. I felt the cold metal graze my skin, and the warmth of blood started to ooze out. A sharp pain began to course through my head.

My vision wavered and I was about to drop to my knees when Japan lunged at me.

This was a dangerous move. I knew that I could raise my sword block him, causing him much damage. He knew that too.

I raised my sword-and stopped.

I couldn't do it.

He knew that too.

Japan knocked me backwards, and my body hit the hard ground. Blood ran down my temple and stained the mud red.

I slowly forced my eyes open as I felt something press against my neck. Japan's foot.

He grabbed my sword arm and wrenched my sword away. Then, he placed his foot over my arm, trapping it.

I was semi-conscious, defenseless and weak.

About to die by the hands of whom I raised.

Japan pushed his foot down further, applying more pressure to my arm. I heard a snap, but did not feel any pain.

I heard a cheer. Nanking had been defeated.
