I looked down at Japan eagerly, my tears halting.

Japan gasped again, choking up water. His eyes slowly opened.

I went dizzy with shock. Japan - alive?

Japan sat up, looking at down at himself. "I am alive?" He spoke softly.

I couldn't hold it in any longer. "You're alive!" I knocked him over in a hug. "You're alive you're alive you're alive!" I shook him and pulled him into a tight embrace.

Japan just sat there in silence, not pushing me away as I expected him to.

"Ok, listen up." I held his shoulders firmly and looked into his eyes. "Firstly, you're not allowed to go jumping off bridges without warning me first. Secondly, I do not allow you to feel guilty because you hurt me and tried to kill yourself. Look, I have already forgiven you, so you don't have to feel bad. You're lucky I saved you because you have so much to live for. Life is precious, so don't just randomly throw it away just like that, with one reckless action." I said it all in a breath.

"Wow. For once you're actually making sense." Japan commented quietly.

"That's right. Follow the advice of your DaGe." I stated proudly. Then I flopped onto the grass in relief. After that adrenaline rush, a wave of sudden exhaustion washed over me.

I looked up into the night sky, seeing a bright round circle in the midst of the dark sea, craters and all.

"The moon." Japan voiced my thoughts.

"Beautiful, isn't it?" I found myself saying, like I did about a thousand years ago.

"The rabbit's pounding medicine on the moon." Japan continued. "And rice as well."

I was quiet. A curtain of silence fell between us.

"China?"

"Yes?"

"I just wanted to say...thank you."

"Huh?"

"Thank you...for saving me."

"No problem. That's what brothers do."

"Brothers...that sounds nice."

"Mmm. Let's keep it that way."

THE END
