Trigger Warning

Happy was a word my mum hadn't used to describe me in a while. She knew I wasn't, even before I told her about my life at my old school.

It wasn't really a word to describe herself either. Not since the miscarriage.

But I couldn't really blame her for that. She had a son who was literally just a skeleton, refusing to talk to her about his problems, and a husband who only works, comes home to eat, and then sleeps. Repeat.

And whenever my mum tried to talk to him, he would dismiss everything like it was just a phase or a rough patch. I could see my mums frustration,

And it's not like I couldnt talk to her, I just can't deal with her stroking my hair, and my face, telling me that 'everything will be okay' because that's not what I wanted. That would be all she'd give me.

If I were to talk to her about everything, anything, I would want her to fucking do something about it. Not just talk. Put words on the table that won't do shit.

So did I feel bad that she learned the hard way about my bullying?

No. Not one bit. Because it actually got her to do something worthwhile.

"Son?"

The door opened, making my jump out of my thoughts, and spin around in my office chair. He never knocked.

"Yeah?"

"There's some people here for you. Should I let them come up?" He asked. I guess Laney and Louise decided to come over after all, after I asked them to teach me how to wrap gifts properly over the phone last night.

"Yeah, whatever."

I turned back around, closing some of the tabs on my mac, until it just had the paper I was 'writing' for my english class. Phil was helping me with it over Skype earlier since he's actually good at that kind of stuff, unlike myself.

"Hello, love!" Laney said, walking into my room. She threw down her brown leather bag, and wrapped her arms around my shoulders.

"Don't strangle him, Laney." Louise snickered, sitting down on my bed.

"Thanks for coming guys." I said, spinning around in my chair. Laney sat down on the floor, flattening out her burgundy skirt.

"Yeah, I don't know why you needed both of us to come over, but the more time we got with you, the better I guess." Laney laughed. "And we can talk about what happened the other day."

I tensed. Of course they would want to talk about what happened Sunday. Anytime they brought it up I would dismiss it. I mean, it was just one little thing, right? Not a big deal?

Wrong. Apparently to Laney and Louise, and I guess Katherine and Millie know now too, this is the best news they've had from Phil is years. But I wouldn't really call it news since, y'know, we both didn't really want to be caught holding hands in public.

"Why do you guys care about that so much?" I asked, pulling out the gift I had for Penny.

"Because this is Phil, our best friend, and you. Like, we didn't think Phil would ever date anyone. With his opinion on soulmates, I didn't think anyone would want him." Laney stated. A little harsh, yes, but there was no need to sugar coat facts, I guess.
