Trigger Warning

I checked and rechecked the address about eight times before I got out of my car. The sun was just about setting when I arrived, and when I got out, it was almost dark.

The house I was at was big: two stories, with, what I can assume, a basement. Probably around 3-4 bedrooms. It was painted a pale blue and the shutters were an off white. Definitely a family home.

I didn't know if I was supposed to knock, ring, or just walk into the house, so I opted to just texting Penny and telling her I was outside. The second I was about to ring the bell, the wooden door swung open, revealing a smiling Phil. And god, his eyes are even better up close.

"Hey, Dan. Come on in, we're downstairs." He grinned warmly, moving out of the doorway so I could walk in. The house was lit with lights that made the front room seem just that much more cozy. There were knitted afghans draped off the back of the couch, with pillows piling around the couch. It seemed for of a decorative room than a living room. Maybe their parents were neat freaks.

The house seemed so homey. It smelled like cinnamon and honey all throughout, and there were pictures littering the walls, of both children growing up.  There were a few wedding photos that were a majority of the hallway, featuring a young, maybe 11 or 12, Phil and Penny. Cute.

"My dad hated his soulmate, so he divorced her, and married Penny's mum, who didn't have one." Phil explained, obviously noticing my curiosity. I nodded my head.

"How did she have Penny then?" I asked. I knew it was none of my business, but if her mum didn't have a soulmate, then who was her father?

"Donor. She always wanted kids, and her not having a soulmate didn't stop her." He shrugged. I nodded again. "C'mon. Mostly everyone is downstairs." He smiled again, gesturing for me to follow him.

We headed down a set of stairs to the basement, hearing roars of laughter and music softly playing off a vinyl in the corner of the room, next to the pool table. There was a small circle coffee table that had a board game set up in the middle, everyone huddled around it. There were snacks in bowls surrounding the game, and soda bottles in the cooler a few feet away.

The second me and Phil made it down the stairs, everyone's attention was brought to us.

"Dan! You made it!" Cole shouted, everyone 'yay'ing in response. I smiled. I'm so welcomed here.

"Hey guys." I said, taking a spot between Katherine and Millie.

"I'll deal you in!" Laney said, tossing me some cards. "Were playing BS. The game board is for later when Morgan and Sam get here."

"They're probably boning in the back of Sam's car." Jackson said, wrapping an arm around Katherine.

"Jackson!" Louise yelled.

"What? They act like we don't know already. Don't you guys notice the looks, and their body language, and how they always end up going places together? Its pretty obvious something is going on between them."

Niki snorted, covering her face with her hands.

"How could we be so blind?"

"Hey, did you guys know there's this thing called being close friends? Oh, but the second Sam and Morgan end up hanging out more the immediate reaction is 'they're boning in the back of sam's car'" Katherine sassed, leaning away from Jackson's grip.
