Wick's POV

After an interesting lunch at Raven's I learned a lot about her. We both knew it, but didn't say anything. It was a date.

Raven wants to move to New Jersey and join some old friends from college to work on a robot design that removes cancerous tumors. She says that she won't make the big move until her cousin comes back from studying abroad and can watch her grandma.

I told her that I'm still an intern at Boeing. I'm looking for a job.

All of our friends from high school ended up like this. Getting a job right now is hard. Raven thought outside the box and made her own business. She's making bank right now, and has enough to buy a mansion if she moves to New Jersey.

Right before I left, she hugged me and said it was good to have me back. I was going to ask her out, but I realized that taking it slow is a lot easier.

This morning I woke up early and drove to the beach. A couple of my friends were down there, too. We went surfing for a while. I hung around my friend Sinclair. He was complaining about how his teenage daughter wants to follow a band on tour across the country.

Then, I told Sinclair all about Raven. He said she reminded him of his wife. Smart, Attractive, Witty. I asked what I should get for her birthday, which was next Sunday. He didn't have an idea.

We were surfing for about 45 minutes when I wiped out bad. I nosedived into the shallow water, got swallowed by the wave, and rolled to the sand. I was okay, but didn't have the energy to get up. After a few minutes, the sun was burning my face and I turned my head. Something was gleaming in the sand. I picked it up and examined it.

Sinclair ran over and asked what happened. "I found it," I said. I held up the necklace.

It was a little dirty, but I could probably polish it off with my Dremel

It was a little dirty, but I could probably polish it off with my Dremel.

"What is that supposed to mean?" Sinclair queried.

"Raven always wanted to be an astronaut, and orbit the earth. The necklace shows an earth with an orbit."

Sinclair scoffed. He thought that I hit my head really hard. "Okay, maybe you should take a break from surfing and call it a day, okay?"

"Okay," I replied. I got dressed and drove to work. The whole time, I had the necklace in my pocket. I had a plan for next Sunday. And this would be a good one.
