Chapter Three
I lifted a glass of champagne from the waiter’s dish and walked up the marble staircase until I had the perfect vantage point. I could literally see everything and everyone from where I was.
“You see this?” I ask no one.
“My money is on the redhead” Wes talks into my ear.
“No way!” I exclaim”
“Why not? He is clearly interested in her!” He argues.
“Yes, but the blonde is looking to get laid and the brunette is just a gold-digger. Notice the excessive accessorizing? The red haired girl isn’t even interested in him! See how she keeps trying to talk to the other guy? My money is on the blonde. She looks desperate enough”
This had become a usual game for Wes and I. Stake outs had become boring over the last few years, so we had decided to try and figure out who was going to sleep with whom.
“But he is clearly not showing any interest in her!”
“You underestimate the power of a girl dying to have sex” I lift the glass to my lips and take a sip.
“Care to elaborate?” Wes asks, laughing. I could almost feel his uncontrollable grin from across the street.
I choke and proceed to cough violently for a moment. “Shut it.” I maliciously whisper through teary eyes.
I observed the rest of the gala attendants and guests, looking for any sign of a power hungry maniac wielding a blue glowing scepter. So far: nothing. I didn’t exactly know how Loki planned on making his entrance, but I knew it would be grand.
“You do look lovely tonight, Eliza” Wes says, starting the conversation again.
I looked down at my simple black dress and heels, shrugging in agreement. “I guess so…I am missing my vest though”
I always felt more comfortable in some sneakers and a long sleeve shirt. I didn’t have any problems with my body, in fact some would say I was in excellent condition, but I never liked exposing myself.
“Heads up!” Wes yells in my ear. My eyes immediately dart across the main floor and, seeing nothing, I move my gaze to the above balconies.
I spot him in an instant. The fast and powerful walk was that of a person with an operation to fulfill. He wasn’t wearing his armor in the surveillance video, but rather an excellent fitting suit and trench coat with an emerald green scarf around his neck. The walking cane he carried was beautifully crafted and looked incredibly dangerous in his hands after he knocked out the first security guard.
Loki walked right up to my target and flipped him onto his back on the ancient sacrificial alter in the center of the room.
“Are you going to stop him?” Wes asks me calmly, seeing everything I could.
“Shh” I was intrigued by his strength and felt the urge to observe him. I walked down from my vantage point, trying to make my way through hundreds of people to the center of the room, to where he was.
Suddenly everyone was screaming and rushing out of the building. I stayed where I was and saw what Loki had done. My target had a silver three pronged device sticking out of his head, above his eye. He was no longer moving, so I assumed he was dead. Loki began to follow the terrified German philanthropies outside.
This was my chance.
“Hey!”
I turned around to see a brave and portly guard making his way past me and towards Loki. Loki whipped his head around as well.
