» In Chapter 2.3, you chose to: stay silent.

The brown tabby she-cat stared at her paws, silent. Images of the three dogs barking fiercely at her made her shiver involuntarily.

Jackaldusk glanced at her worriedly and stood up. "Come on. Let's not think about the past. Your tour hasn't ended yet."

Minky stared at Jackaldusk, curious. With a sigh, she stood up to follow the deputy. She took in her surroundings with awed looks, appreciating the beauty of nature.

"I'll show you what's inside the cave. Like I said before, that's where we do most of our activities. It's very ideal for us as it's large enough to keep us safe from harsh weather conditions," Jackaldusk explained, flicking his tail towards the cave entrance. "Follow me."

Minky followed Jackaldusk, still recovering from her previous awe of the clearing. When she entered the cave, she was once again surprised. The cave was surprisingly well-lit, with a cooling atmosphere. She spotted younger cats lying down near the entrance, and looked at the deputy questioningly.

"The apprentices - cats six moons and up - are cats that have not gone through their warrior assessments that deem them fit to become warriors - adult cats who defend the Clan. They sleep closest to the entrance," Jackaldusk explained.

"Why? Shouldn't warriors sleep closest to the entrance? What if something attacks the camp at night?" Minky asked, feeling uneasy.

"The camp will be guarded at night, so we will be alerted before the attack can surprise us. Also, since apprentices are learning to defend the Clan, it is best to keep them well-suited for harsher conditions," the russet tabby tom reasoned. "Besides, warriors sleep closest to the apprentices. If something goes wrong, the warriors will help the apprentices."

"So that's how wildcats survive... I don't see myself fitting in..." Minky sighed, her ears flattening.

Jackaldusk narrowed his eyes, assessing at Minky. "You look to be of a warrior's age. If you can pass a warrior assessment, you will be give a new name to show that you belong with us."

I don't know how their assessments work... I'll never be accepted into their Clan, Minky thought dejectedly.

Sensing her distress, Jackaldusk gave her an encouraging smile. "Of course, we will train you before we give you the assessment. Now then, shall we continue the tour?"

» Doubt herself and wonder about the assessments.

» Continue the tour.

Here's another chapter for you Yearlets! I won't be updating this frequently, but I certainly won't be abandoning this book yet.

Do you think Minky has what it takes to pass the warrior assessment? How do you like the cats in PeakClan so far?
