"On second thoughts, just let him come up here himself. He should chase this piece of hot stuff!" Minah told you from behind you as you looked at yourself in the floorlength mirror. Taehyung, sitting on your bed (as the Kim siblings always did), let out a wolf whistle at the sight of your figure in the mirror as he looked up from his phone.
Exasperated, you said, "Tae, you have a girlfriend. And Minah, is it really necessary for me to dress up like this?"
"Yah! It's oppa to you!"
"Yes, of course!" they said simultaneously. You all laughed.Taehyung got up and crossed the room to pinch your cheeks. "Well, I'm going to dress up too, if it makes you feel better. I'm going to look my best for Eunjeong." He puffed out his chest, causing a laugh from you and Minah before he exhaled in a laugh himself and bounced off to his room.
You stared at your reflection in the mirror again. Paler now with makeup, almond-shaped eyes sparkling, the jewelry on your neck and wrists glittering gold. But most... horrifying, was the dress. "Isn't this a tad bit too much?"
Minah shook her newly curled hair vigorously. "Cocktail dresses are all the fashion."
"Maybe a couple of decades ago...?" you asked, disbelief showing on the face of your reflection.
"Hey, I'll be wearing it with you! And plus, with this ruby shade of red, you look truly amazing." Minah's dress was an exact copy, but in a shade of pale pink, which wasn't her usual style (black, black and black) because she wanted you to have the spotlight.
Everyone would be dressing formally, as to celebrate the new addition to the family (nope, it was just Minah's idea to help you gain Jungkook's attention), although Eunjeong and Taehyung had both said that as being "unofficial" for now. So everyone was going to be in tuxedos and pretty dresses. Including Jungkook. And Jimin, who Minah had invited after knowing he had recovered from his flu. ("If you guys get together, I want soneone I can hang out with.")
"I can't believe I want my friends to hook up. If you do it, please get out of the house."
You finally turned away from your reflection back to Minah, now stretched out on your bed. "Oh, so you want us to do it in your lovely rose bush outside?"
Both your eyes flashed wide. "I can't believe I just said that." Your hands covered your face in embarrassment.
Recovering from her shock, Minah raised her eyebrows and said, "Damn, girl. Kookie is messing you up good."
---
"Taehyung, would you please kindly retrieve your sister from her room?" Jin said slowly with her teeth clenched.
No one else had heard, but Jungkook smiled from his seat on the table, knowing how much Mrs. Kim hated being late, and consequently always tried to drill punctuality into her children (and husband). Naturally, Taehyung and Minah turned out rebellious, as well-mannered as they were.
Currently, Taehyung, his girlfriend, Jin, Namjoon, Jimin and Jungkook were seated at what was usually called the "banquet table". It was the official dining table in an actual dining room, but with only two permanent occupants (along with you but not Namjoon and Jin because of their frequent trips), a smaller table in the living room was usually used for dinner. The "banquet table" was made out of some fancy wood no one knew the name of (except perhaps Namjoon and Jungkook), and was used only for formal occasions when Namjoon and Jin invited friends or clients over.
Taehyung had risen out of his seat, taking care of not rumpling his tux and crisp white shirt, at the same moment you and Minah marched into the room in your game gear.
As Minah expected, everyone was surprised. You and Minah in a dress? With actual non-goth makeup? As you expected, only Jin and Jimin were pleasantly surprised. Although to be fair, Namjoon had been fairly non-commital, only noticing that his daughter and her friend had entered the room as everyone lifted their heads to see them.
Jungkook had half-risen out of his seat and immediately plopped back in embarrassment as soon as he recovered his senses. Taehyung just looked shocked at the sight of his sister in pretty clothes and pretty makeup until he was pulled back into his seat by the ever-so-gentle Eunjeong.
Keep your head held high, you reminded yourself, remembering the cheesy guy-attracting tips Minah had drilled into you before coming down, which you had grabbed onto to keep yourself from losing your cool. Well, a girl has no limits when desperate, right?
So Minah, followed by you, stalked forward in your high heels and went to your respective seats, you between Taehyung and Jungkook and Minah between Eunjeong and Jimin. Jin, at the end of the table furthest from the door, said, "It's nice to see you girls dressed up!" smiling very demurely at Namjoon, who looked a bit clueless, sitting at the other end of the table. Luckily, Eunjeong cut in, "Yes, oh my god! You girls dress up so well! We should go on a shopping trip some time!"
You enthusiastically said, "Yes!", while looking at Minah who shrugged philosophically, accepting her fate.
Jungkook chuckled and said, "You might want to rethink that, noona. She is a notorious shopper." Every time you went on a shopping spree, Minah and Jungkook would draw lots or play Mario Kart, and whoever lost would have to accompany you on your trip to the mall.
Eunjeong laughed as well, delighted. "Well, we should all go together then!" A chorus of groans could be heard, including one from Taehyung. This was going to be fun.
"I'll drive," Jimin offered. At least he was supportive.
"Jin approves," Namjoon called out from his end of the table. "Which means I have to go and carry bags."
Jin nodded. "Of course. And you should drive them. Jimin, you're not getting your license until next month, so not this time, okay?"
"Yes, Auntie."
Jungkook and Minah were busy playing a silent game of rock-paper-scissors across the table, whose apparent winner was Jungkook, although Minah kept asking for rematches.
You turned to Jungkook, "Stop it, you guys. Both of you are going."
"Why?"
"I won fair and square!"
You gave both of them cold glares, first to Jungkook next to you, and then across the table to Minah. Both of them looked down.
"Fine."
"Okay."
You smiled. And the Kim's maid started bringing in the first glorious dish - chowder soup.
