It turned out that Minah didn't get to grill you for the deets on the bus to the campsite. Because Jungkook had gotten dibs on the seat next to you.
So you spent the whole ride just leaning on each other, not really talking except the occasional question about something you wanted to know about each other that you didn't already know from the last decade of knowing each other. Things like favourite flowers, most secret aspirations, and this one Jungkook blurted out after which he had blushed immensely. "Favourite sex position?"
You had laughed and said, "Doggy," but you were deadly embarrassed as well, hoping he wouldn't notice as your face reddened. "And yours?"
"M-Missionary," he said quietly.
"Cool."
There was a long silence after that, contrasted by the loud voices at the back.
---
"I'm already starting to hate you lovebirds," Minah said through her gritted teeth. Everyone was currently setting up tents in on the barren camp area, and Minah was moving a bunch of heavy wooden poles to your designated space.
You were sat on the slightly grassy ground trying to figure out how the cloth of the tent was supposed to be arranged. Before the trip, Ms Lee had given each group (tents were for groups of four) a single-sheet manual for the tent, with tiny diagrams of where all the poles went.
Ryu Sujeong and Kim Jiho from 2B sat on either side of you, trying to puzzle out what the manual was teaching. They were your groupmates for this trip, as two people from one class had to go with two people from another class. You didn't know them very well, but Minah had said that Jiho was a nice person, having known her the first couple of years in middle school.
"So where did you want this to go?" Minah called out from a few feet away, holding up the first of eighteen poles.
You and Sujeong looked at each other, already knowing that you would be bored, and sighed together in unison.
Then the three of you got up, and with Minah, got to work.
---
You surveryed your two metre square area with satisfaction, proud that your tent now stood up on stable poles that were driven into the earth.
Sujeong stood next to you, giving an 'OK' to Jiho and Minah, and they got up from crouching around the tent, dusting off their jeans as they went.
"This is great," Minah expressed, "But now I'm dead tired and I want food." Grinning widely, you held up your backpack, which Minah didn't remember you packing, and you shook it, making plastic-bag sounds.
Minah's eyes gleamed. "I thought we just ate all our snacks during the break!" Jiho exclaimed, rushing towards you at the same time as Minah.
You laughed, "Well, with Kim Minah, you always have to have a backup supply." You opened your camping backpack, handing out biscuits and snack bars, with even Sujeong grabbing the food and eating up hungrily. You settled for a small chocolate 'n' oats bar, munching happily as you watched the groups around you continue to struggle with their tents. Until Jungkook and his crew walked over to raid your food.
"Hey, Jimin!" you and Minah waved at him, ignoring Jungkook as he neared your tent.
Jiho called out, "Girls area, stay out!"
Jungkook, Jimin, Yugyeom, and Koo Junhoe from 2C came to a stop at a line your group had drawn with a rock used as chalk on the floor.
Jimin commented, "A line, really, a line? What are we, fifth grade?"
Jiho fired back, "You're the one with a gang of gangly boys."
Sujeong giggled at her play on words. You crossed your arms. "Well, boys? What are you guys here for?"
Yugyeom spoke up, and it took all of your will not to suddenly flinch back, "Playing mature and grown-up, I see. Well, how's your tent?"
That hit you hard and you dropped the act quickly as Yugyeom crossed over the line to inspect your tent. You moved as fast as you could out of the way. "Stable enough," he admitted, "But we got ours done in less than twenty minutes." He stepped back to face you and you dropped your head.
"Yugyeom and Junhoe contributed a lot! They've camped before," Jimin added brightly still behind the line. He was in 2C as well, paired with Junhoe and in a group with Yugyeom and Jungkook. Just his luck, right? For Jungkook and Yugyeom to be paired together by Ms Lee.
You remembered her words - "Jungkook-ssi is a nice person, he can show Yugyeom around and introduce him to everyone. And he will be lucky to make friends with someone so charismatic." Needless to say, Jungkook wasn't feeling very lucky or approving of his partner.
"Really?" you walked around Yugyeom with Minah trailing behind you to Jimin, just wanting to continue a conversation so you wouldn't have to talk to Yugyeom. Jiho and Sujeong, seeing this, got up and joined you as well.
"Yeah, they knew exactly where everything went and stuff. Me and Jungkook just stood and watched!" Jimin looked at Jungkook, who shrugged.
"Ah, it was nothing. You and Jungkook did most of the lifting anyway," Yugyeom said generously from behind you.
Junhoe hadn't said a word so far, but he nodded at Yugyeom's words.
"Class 2B and C! Please head to the common ground for a meeting with your teacher! A and D, your meeting will be in 30 minutes!" a teacher called out from the common ground, sending the 2B and C class reps to walk around and make sure everyone got the message.
Jimin waved, "See you guys later then!" and Junhoe nodded at Jungkook before leaving with Jimin.
You looked at Jungkook. He shrugged.
Then Yugyeom went and asked you, "Can we go for a walk?"
