19th February 2000, 09:00 (am)

Eva woke up full of joy. Her 11th birthday had finally arrived!!! She jumped out of bed and quickly descended the stairs, heading for the kitchen.

"Good morning my princess! Happy birthday!" those were the first words of her mother as she become aware of the little girl's presence.

"Good morning mum! Thank you!" Eva replied.

In no time at all, the breakfast was ready in the kitchen table, ready to be consumed by the little girl.

"Thanks mom, you've prepared my favourite plates!" Eva exclaimed.

"Well, today is your day sweetheart, and I try my best to make it perfect." Eva's mother replied.

"So, I suppose everything is ready for my party, right?" the birthday girl asked with agony.

"More than ready I could tell!" her mother smiled sweetly at her.

Finishing her breakfast, Eva informed her mother that she would go and check the last details of her room's decoration. She wanted it to be perfect. And so it would be. While checking everything herself, she didn't realize how the time lapsed. Just as the clock went on 15:07 (pm), the mailman called for them. Being in the garden, Eva went to attend him.

"I have a letter for you miss Eva de la Rosa" he said smiling at her.

"Thank you very much sir!" she responded after he handed her the letter.

"Happy birthday by the way, I hope you fully enjoy your day!" he continued.

"Thank you once more sir, have a nice day!" she replied politely, seeing him off.

Entering the house, she observed the letter, but she couldn't understand from where it was. So, she asked for her mother's help.

"Mom!!! What do you know about Hogwarts?" she asked her mother.

"Hogwarts?! What is that?" her mother asked unaware of the place's name.

"The letter I received, says that I have been accepted to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry..." the little girl replied.

"Witchcraft and Wizardry?! Oh, come on now... You know such things do not exist, don't you?" her mother laughed.

"Well, that way who would have sent this letter to me?" she asked with curiosity.

"Someone who would like to prank you obviously, maybe a friend of yours." her mother simply replied.

"Okay..." Eva answered, not completely convinced.

She took the letter to her room, and continued on with her own preparation. The party would start at 18:00 and she didn't have time to lose thinking about this. She would search it afterwards. She knew her mother didn't believe in magic and that she was afraid of even thinking it could exist. She herself though, had a completely different opinion. As far as she remembered herself, she always wanted to have magical powers. She wished she could be a witch too, but knowing that neither of her parents had any relationship with the wizarding world, she had no hopes. And that made her feel sad... She quickly averted her thoughts to something else. She couldn't be sad on her birthday! Stop overthinking and start preparing yourself! The guests are going to arrive and you won't be ready if you continue on like that! She scolded herself. And so she did.

About one quarter before six, she was ready, so she decided to take a walk through the house to check everything once more. And everything was in perfection. The first guests started to arrive, and she was the one to welcome them with a warm smile. She gained compliments from everyone, being the Princess of the day. At some point, came the time of the happy birthday song. The cake had arrived and everyone took their places. After finishing the song, Eva was asked to make a wish before blowing the candles. But she really, didn't know what to wish. So... she just thought I wish to go on a place, where my dreams will come true. And so she blew the candles and everyone applauded.

After the end of the celebration, she withdrew to her bedroom so to change into her pyjamas and sleep. Or that was just an excuse to be left alone in her room. She put on her pyjamas and opened the window. She sat by it and just started crying. Everything was lovely in the party, apart from the fact that the one person she wished to see most of all, wasn't there... And just to think he promised he would go... But in the end he didn't. Maybe his new life is much better and more important than me. Or maybe he has already forgotten of my existence. Come to think of it, if he ever loved me, he wouldn't have abandoned me, he wouldn't have abandoned us... She thought to herself and started sobbing silently so not to be heard. She wanted to hate him, discard him from her memory, so not to hurt anymore. But... which memory? Her father has abandoned her and her mother when she was two years old. She didn't really have any vivid memories of him. So, in reality what actually hurt her was his absence, and the vacancy it created in her heart. From when he chose to leave them, their only communication was through the phone, on days of celebration. From time to time he would promise to visit her, but never did, because "something urgent has occurred" and he wouldn't be able to make it. Although her mother used to tell her that in the first period of time he would come over to see his little daughter, Eva's memories were fade, almost nonexistent. And she was tired. She was tired of all that crying over him, missing him but still hoping he would return for her shake. She couldn't say if she loved him or not, she just knew that she grew up with her mother being a superwoman, making efforts that no one else would. And she was glad about it. She had the best mother anyone could ask for. But even that way, she needed her father to be a part of her life. And he wasn't.
She felt really tired. She had been there, crying by the window for a really long time. She took a look at the clock, it was past midnight. She decided it was time to go to sleep, but she let her window open, so that she would be able to feel the sweet breeze and have the company of the stars. How I wish I could escape this cruel reality and travel to another world, where all my dreams will come true... Was her last though before falling asleep. Little did she know that her wish was already coming true...
