The two girls started walking around the garden in silence. That was, until Helena understood that if she wouldn't ask, she wouldn't learn. So, she decided to break the silence and she spoke.

"Hey, are you gonna tell me what happened in the end?" she asked.

"Oh, yeah. Well... As you may have noticed, yesterday at the party my father wasn't there. And of course I was disappointed. But I did not expect something to happen like it did this morning. The mailman came with a letter for me, and he said that it has arrived yesterday but he thought it would be better to give it to me today... And... it was from him. He said that he couldn't attend my party as he is travelling to Spain. It was a letter to inform me that... that he would be there for at least six months... and to... to wish me... Happy Birthday..." Eva had already started crying again.

"Oh, come on! Please don't cry! You make me wanna cry too... Please, everything is gonna be fine in the end. And if it's not fine, it's not the end, remember?" Helena asked hugging her best friend.

"I know, it just hurts... I feel abandoned... That I am, by him of course..." Eva stated while calming down.

"Well, look at the bright side, maybe if he was here it would be even worse, right?" Helena asked.

"Yes, you're right.." Eva simply answered.

"Well, anything else? More pleasant?" Helena tried to enlighten the mood.

"Not exactly pleasant, but weird. Yesterday, at 15:07 sharp, the mailman came to give me one letter. Today he didn't remember at all, and he even said it couldn't be him cause he took the day of yesterday... Isn't that weird?" Eva said, now having stopped crying.

"A letter from where?" Helena started smiling.

"Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Have you heard about it?" Eva asked.

"You can always search it on the Internet. Let's go to my house and see. What do you think?" Helena suggested.

"It's fine, if your parents have no problem of course." Eva said.

"When have they had?" Helena laughed.

"You're right! Let's go then!" Eva said.

And so they did...

They searched for hours, finding completely nothing... Feeling very disappointed, they decided on stopping the research, and started talking about different topics. And that's when Helena brought it up:

"Eva, do you believe in magic?" she asked

"Depends on what type of magic you are referring to!" Eva joked

"Well, of course not the magic all those supposed to be magicians do! Hahaha" Helena replied

"Yeah, I can perform almost everything they do, and I've just seen a couple of videos on the Internet" Eva continued

"That's nice! So, what about real magic? What do you think?" Helena pressured

"Oh, well... About real magic... Okay, I don't want you to think I'm crazy, but I do believe it exists. And far as my memory goes, I remember myself wanting to have magical powers..." Eva said reluctantly

"Aha... First of all, I'm not the one to judge you for your beliefs, and secondly, I believe in magic too! So, no need to worry about it! So, do you believe it may be true?" Helena smiled

"What thing may be true?" Eva asked

"Hogwarts of course! That you were accepted and you should be going to attend classes in September!" Helena exclaimed

"Oh.. Well, that's something complicated, I have no one involved with magic in my family, plus my parents either don't believe it exists or fear and hate it..." Eva said with the disappointment clear in her voice

"Come on! In the magic world everything can be possible! Don't put yourself down!" Helena answered

"Well then, only time will tell!" Eva concluded

"That's true." Helena agreed

And they kept talking about different topics till the end of the day.

(Time lapse to 19th August 2000)

The rest of the year passed normally, without any magical interference. Eva was convinced that the Hogwarts letter was a well played prank, not knowing from who thought. It was the day she turned exactly eleven and a half years old. That was when she received one more letter. In a different way though... It was 15:07 (pm). She was in her bedroom, reading a book, when she heard a little tap in her window. She went to see what it was, but at facing it, she felt so surprised she went numb. It was an owl looking at her. She really didn't know how to react. That's when the little owl tapped once more the window and showed Eva her leg. She had a letter attached to it. The exact moment Eva saw it, she regained consciousness and opened the window.

"Hello little bird! That's a letter for me? Thank you very much for bringing it! Oh, but wait! I've read that if a bird brings you a letter you must treat it something. We have cookies! I'll be right back!" she exclaimed and descended quickly the stairs. She grabbed the cookies and ascended once more to find the owl waiting patiently.

"Here you are!" she said while feeding the little bird, after taking the letter from its leg.

Then, the owl made an appreciative sound and left. Eva opened the letter just to find out it was from Hogwarts, and it was a list of the things she should be equipped with so to be able to start the semester. Surprised as she was, she decided discussing about it with Helena. In the end, she was the only one who believed in the existence of magic. She will not think I have gone mad, she will understand. Maybe together we'll be able to find out the truth behind of this. She thought to herself.

"Mum! I'm going to Helena!" she informed her mother

"Eva it's early in the afternoon, she might be relaxing right now." her mother reasoned.

"But I've just seen her playing in the garden!" Eva protested

"Okay then, do as you wish." her mother replied

"Thanks mom!" Eva exclaimed

She grabbed both letters from Hogwarts and walked out of her house, just to enter to the one at her side. She pressed the doorbell and after a couple of seconds the door was open to reveal Helena.

"Hello girl! What's up?" she said just like she already knew that Eva would be coming

"Oh, um, hi! I'm fine, how about you?" Eva asked bewildered

"Fine, thanks! Something the matter? You seem confused." Helena replied

"No, it's just that.. Did you know I was coming?" Eva asked

"Well, regarding the fact that I was in the garden and saw you coming out of your house at this early in the afternoon, well, I supposed I would have a guest! And guess what, I wasn't wrong!" she laughed

"Oh, haha how dumb I can be at times! Hahaha" Eva laughed in response

"Ok, so, come in! And to what do we owe this visit of yours?" Helena asked playfully

"To another letter from Hogwarts... I was convinced it was just a prank, but now what? It has a list of things I should have at the start of the semester. And not only that, but this time it was delivered by an owl..." Eva said as the two girls reached Helena's bedroom.

"Okay... So... I think it's high time I explained some things to you..." Helena said reluctantly

"Okay, what is it?" Eva asked curiously

Only if she knew what she was about to hear, would change her life at once...
