19th February 2001
The day started weirdly for Eva. Her owl was the one to wake her up, nagging her with her head ever so slightly on the cheek, an indication of a feathery caress. When she finally woke up though, and after cuddling her owl a bit, she realized that everything was silent. As if everyone was still sleeping. So she decided to look at the time, only to find out it was still 5 o'clock in the morning, and the sun had not risen yet. Even if it was that early, Eva did not feel much tired, so she decided taking that rare opportunity of waking up this early to stargaze from her window, and even watch the sunrise in the following hours. While looking at the stars, she couldn't help but think how she always found them fascinating, magical even. She would always find herself lost in their beauty for as long as she could remember herself. She also thought about how fast about half of the school year was already over, and how that was her first birthday without her mother, while one more without her father. The thought of her mother struck something in her, making her feel sad about getting to spend that special day separated, for the first time ever. So while the sun had started appearing in the horizon, she decided to write a letter to her mother, and send it to her later in the day.
Hey ma!
How are you? I know it's not been too long since I wrote to you, but I felt the need to. As you already know, today is a really special day and the first one we're apart. I just wanted to let you know that even if I miss you terribly, I'm overall fine, and I know it will be a nice one. So don't get sad about me not being there. I know it's hard, but still, you can at least try =) I can't wait to be back for Easter Break and see you though!Lots of love, hugs, and kisses,
Eva <3
She always would end her letters with a small heart after her name. She folded the paper, put it in an envelope and guarded it for sending it later. She once again looked at the time and found out it was already time to start preparing for her classes. She had a shower and changed into her robes, tried styling a bit differently her hair and got her bag with her books (that she had already prepared last night) with her, before leaving her dormitory. Upon coming out of the Ravenclaw common room, she found herself faced with two smiling girls. "Happy Birthday!!!" was the first thing they both said at the same time before enclosing her into a warm hug. Eva giggled with her friends and thanked them sweetly.
"Thank you, thank you! Have you been waiting in here for long?"
"No no, it must be about five minutes approximately. We wanted to make sure we arrived earlier than your exit!" Athena answered
"We should get to the Great Hall for breakfast, it's already started. Also, today we don't really have many classes, so for sure we will find time to hang out and celebrate." Aristea mentioned
All three girls arrived at the Great Hall and while having breakfast they talked about many random topics, as well as birthdays, worst and best memories of each one for such days. At some point an owl made its entrance and flew straight to Eva, landing on the table in front of her and extending one foot for the little girl to take the letter attached to it. Once she did, she immediately understood who it was from, as the handwriting could not be mistaken with anyone else's. She quickly got her own letter from her pocket, and after giving it some treats, she tied her letter to its foot. "Can you please return with this letter to the sender?" she asked politely. The owl in response flew away leaving the girl to read her letter. She looked at her friends and informed that it was from her mother, and proceeded to show them her handwriting, as to how she understood. She then started reading the letter, tears forming in her eyes in the process.
"She's wishing me Happy Birthday... A-and she sent me this" she said while putting on a beautiful pendant that she found in the envelope
"It's really beautiful!" Athena said
