FOUR YEARS LATER

Jennifer was sprawled out on the floor, papers and crayons all around her.

She couldn't draw,obviously,but she tried.

Sydney bought her crayons to "enlighten her imagination".Jen used them whenever she could. She loved to draw.

I sat by her, watching her draw.

"Hi,Daddy."Jen said quietly, scribbling on a piece of paper.

"What's that?"I asked.

"A Scribblin."She said,sticking her tongue out.

"A Scribblin?"I asked.

"Yeah!See,there's his head,and there's his eyes,and there's his really long tail!"

"The Scribblin's a he?"

"Yes,silly!Girls don't wear ties,do they?"

"Some might."

Jen made a ridiculous-looking face.

Jen set aside the peice of paper and I gave her a blank one.

She tapped her chin.

"Daddy,what do I look like?"Jen said suddenly.

I looked at my daughter, trying to decide how to describe her own appearance.

Her green eyes focused on the paper, darting a few inches to the left occasionally.

She placed her wavy, light brown hair behind her ear.

"Well, you have my green eyes, and you have your Mommy's light brown hair, and you have some freckles.Your nose is small, and you're  tall and skinny for your age."I said,Jen scribbling with every peice of the desciption.

"So,like this?"She said,holding up the paper.

It looked something like the picture conveniently placed at the top of this chapter.

"Exactly like that."I said.

"Am I pretty?"She said, looking at the peice of paper, her eyebrows furrowed.

"You're beautiful."I said,smiling.

Jen smiled, and ran to the kitchen.

I jogged after her.

She felt the fridge for a magnet.

She found one.She hung the picture on the fridge.

At the top of the fridge,Sydney placed a piece of paper reading,

😘😀🐶Jennifer's Art Gallery!😘😀🐶
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

"There!"Jen cried, looking (sort of) at the fridge with pride.

Jen left the room.

I looked at the many scibbles covering the fridge.

Some included little messages from Sydney and me.

Mommy loves you!
