My black timberlands clapped against the white tile as I walked in the hallway with my brother, Hakeem, trailing behind me. It would've been quiet if it wasn't for him. I furrowed my eyebrows as he rapped loudly to his music.
I turned towards him, "Boy! Do you ever shut up?!"
It was 6 in the morning and on top of that, it was the first day of school. He was way to hype.
He raised his eyebrows, finally realizing I'd said something, "Huh?!" He yelled, taking an earbud out.
I opened another door leading me to the gym, "I said! Do you ever shut up? Not everybody got to know what you listening to."
He squinted his small eyes, "Girl, shut up!" he put the earbud back in and continued to rap even louder than before, throwing up his fake ass gang signs.
I scoffed, shaking my head. Annoying stuff like this really made me wonder why girls were so attracted to him, like a moth and a light.
My brother was your typical and average popular boy. He was a muscular, tall jock who stood 6"2 with caramel skin just like daddy. Had an oval-shaped face which held a wide Jackson 5 nose, full brown moon eyes, and an afro full of dark brown coily hair. He was an athlete that swore sports was a full-time job. He played everything you could think of: golf, hockey, bat mitten, football... you name it. However, he was most passionate about basketball. See, the average popular boy.
Finally, we came across the black gym doors. They stood there mocking me, so demonizing.
I gripped the handle. This was it. As soon as I walked into these doors, I was to be submerged in the deep sea of all the high school problems: popularity, anxiety, depression, drama, bullying, childishness, STRESS.
I took a deep breath and finally gained the strength to-
"Moani, if you don't move yo slow ass." He shoved me and held the door open, motioning me to go in. Surprised me. Never thought he'd even consider being a gentleman for once.
He walked past me and went straight to his friends or "brothers" I should say. Those boys have been together since elementary.
I scanned the gym, seeing how crowded it was. Forget checking my first period. There's a spot on the bleachers that I need to find! I rushed past the wall full of list and names. I huffed, sitting in the first row. Of course, I sat on the broken seat, almost made me fall back. Gosh, I hope nobody saw that.
I popped in my earbuds. At last, alone with my thoughts. The bleacher rocked back and forth, letting me know someone sat beside me. I looked up and saw my best friend, Dynasty.
My face lit up. I hugged her tightly, causing my earbuds to fall out.
"Naw, Nene, don't hug me now. I know you heard me calling your name when you walked yo light skin ass up in here."
I rolled my eyes and released my hug, "And there goes the lovely attitude I've missed all summer." I said with sarcasm.
She scoffed and nudged my shoulder, "And there goes that sensitive part of you missed so much."
Like clockwork, Hakeem walked up the stairs next to us, with his entire crew following closely behind.
Chris, another one of the typical boys, stared into my soul before winking. A shiver ran down my spine.
