🌹M•O•A•N•I🌹
I laid in bed and put my phone to my ear; I was calling Lucas all day. All my calls went straight to voicemail, and he wasn't responding to any of my text. He was M.I.A for two days straight. I had nothing to worry about because I knew Lucas could hold himself down, but I hated being ignored. We hit it off one night, and now he was ghosting me.
I left a message, "Hey, I'm just calling to check on you, you promised we were going to the carnival today." I hung up and put the phone down.
I huffed, I got dolled up for nothing. I rubbed the fabric of my dress between my fingers; this shit was itchy as hell. I was about to get a rash for trying to be cute. Today, I thought we could make videos for Instagram; I was ready to publicize our relationship. The doorbell rang, and I didn't flinch. I picked up my phone and called again; I swore this would be my last time.
"Voicemail box is now full." I threw my phone across the room.
The doorbell rang again, "Hakeem get the door!" I yelled.
He came out of his room while putting on a black shirt, "Why you can't get it? You ain't been doing shit all day."
I rolled my eyes, "I'm handling something." I stood up and searched for my phone.
"You clingy as fuck. Let that nigga breathe, damn." He walked down the stairs.
I pouted. I wasn't being clingy, I just wanted attention. I reached for my phone and picked it up. I scrolled through my call log.
"Lucas (134 on going calls)"
I cringed. Maybe I was being a little clingy, I tossed my phone on the bed and ran my fingers through my hair. Laughs echoed into my room, and I peaked out of my doorway. Zelda stood at the front door, giving and receiving hugs from Hakeem and my mom. My phone buzzed, and I snatched it off my bed. I read Lucas's contact name and accepted the call with certainty.
I cheesed, "Hey Ba—"
"—Yo, I'm busy stop calling me."
My smile faded, "I was—" The line went dead.
I furrowed my eyebrows and stared at my phone, "Moani, what're you doing up here?" I looked at my mom standing in the doorway.
I pouted, "I was just..."
She held out her hand, "Give me the phone, and go help Zelda unpack."
"Mama I was just tryna—"
"Moani. Phone." She said through gritted teeth.
I handed her my phone, "Go downstairs." She shooed me off.
I strolled into Jessica's room with my head hanging low. I looked up, and I locked eyes with Zelda, her emerald eyes stared into my soul; she sat on the edge of her bed fiddling with her thumbs. I offered a faint smile and awkwardly waved. Zelda cocked her head to the side.
She stood to her feet, "Hey Nene!" She pulled me in for a hug.
I patted her back softly, "How was your flight ?"
She pulled away and sighed, "It was okay. But look at you!" She spun me around. "You still look just like yo mama! I see you getting a lil ass on you too."
I giggled and sat on Jessica's bed, "Yeah..." I looked at her luggages stacked in a corner. "You want me to help you unpack ?"
She sat back on her bed, "No, I got it, but who's bed is that." She pointed to the bed I sat on.
"This is Jessica's bed you'll like her, she's cool."
Zelda stuck her tongue out revealing her pierced tongue, "She like girls?"
My eyes widened, and I shrugged, "No, not that I know of.." I laughed. "You like girls now?"
She rubbed her fingers through her long red locs, "I been liked girls, but I still like boys." She bit her lip, "It's just girl taste better." She ran her tongue over her teeth.
I covered my eyes, "Zelda!" I screamed. "Do I even want to know?"
She snickered and flicked her wrist, "Oh girl, those stories would take days to tell." She examined me. "Why you so dressed up?" She fiddled with her lip ring.
I huffed, "My boyfriend kinda stood me up..." I looked down at my heels.
She looked at her long acrylics, "Oh, I thought you was dressed for me. I was about to say I didn't know I was that important." She smiled. "You supposed to laugh. Who's this boy that stood you up? You too fine for all that."
I chuckled, "If I had my phone I'd show you, but my mama got it." I shrugged.
"Oh baby, don't even worry about that. I got my phone right here." She stood up and took the phone out of her back pocket. "Come here." She waved me over. "What's his at?"
I shrugged and sat beside her, "I dont know I only got his number."
She put her hand on her hip, "Girl what? Are you serious?" She rolled her neck.
I laughed, "I don't know it Zee." I put my hands on my thighs.
She waved her hands, "Uh-Uh... Moani..." She sat down and put her hand on my thigh. "Honey, that's a no-no." She counted on her fingers, "You need that Instagram, twitter, and what's that other one they say only old people be on?"
I raised my eyebrow, "Facebook?" My eyes wondered around the room.
She nodded her head, "Yeah, you need the Facebook and you need the Tik-Tok if he got one. Tomorrow you finna ask that boy for his at and if he don't give it to you send me his number cause baby no mm-mm, you not finna get played on my watch. How long you and this boy been talking?"
I looked around, "About 3 months."
Her jaw dropped, "Nene, that's unacceptable boo." She sighed.
Zelda made me miss Dynasty. They acted exactly alike, both of them had swords for tongues. They were blunt as fuck and weren't scared to get smart. Dynasty was one of the many reasons boys didn't talk to me. They knew if they associated with me they'd have to through her or Hakeem. Even though Dynasty had a smart mouth, sometimes she'd end up speechless with hurt feelings. But usually I would be there to lift her up again.
I shrugged, "I didn't think social media was that important."
She put her head back, "You got alot to learn." She laughed.
Jessica ran into the room, "Sorry!" She ran towards her dresser and frantically rummaged through it.
Zelda licked her lips, "You good..." She stared at her ass.
I nudged her her arm, "Stop.." I whispered.
She bit her lip, "Who is she?"
I squinted my eyes, "That's Jessica..." I shook my head.
Jessica shut the drawer closed, "Moani we have to go." her voice cracked.
I stood up, "What's going on?"
"Chris is in the hospital."
