Hey there Jenna! I honestly love this book, but you already know that. Even though the first couple of chapters are kind of sketchy, it really does pick up well. The prologue is definitely my favorite part of the book so far… no offense meant, it’s just so descriptive and well written.
You should definitely thank whoever made your cover, because it’s great. The editing is seamless, and the girl hanging by ropes over the cityscape is perfect for the book. Even though the cover is a bit unfocused, the scene is a great fit for the theme.
Honestly, I didn’t see any problems punctuation and verb agreement wise. You have a serious knack for good descriptions, as you never over do the level of vocabulary and allow the reader to visualize the scene.
I’ve seen a few comments where people have said they’re confused about the plot, but I don’t see it. It’s apparent that Elizabeth didn’t get into her first choice for college and was seriously distraught, as she’d planned to go there with her best friend, who’d gotten in during early admission. After getting over herself, she decides to go through with her Plan B, studying in London. Throughout the middle chapters you show Liz beginning to cut the strings she has in Alabama in preparation for her departure with flashbacks and interactions with her favorite people. You then follow that promptly with her flight out to England and her arrival. Introductions of new characters could be a bit smoother, but it’s quite good! I’m excited to read more.
I decided to give you an 8.5 because even though the writing is captivating, it could flow better. Thank you for your request and for being the example of my reviews. Please tell me what you think of the review below ↡. x
