Title: You & I
Author: @imaginetodreamagain
Genre: Fanfiction
Rating: 8.0
Hi there Jesse! This is pretty great first book; it’s unique. As an author, you take control of your writing and it’s obvious that you have grand plans for your book. The plot twists are not predictable at all, which is very difficult for a lot of authors to pull off. You capture the reader rather well.
Your cover is really eye-catching, however, when you glance at it you can only see the ‘You &’ part of the title because the red ‘I’ blends in and your username is not very visible. Other than that it’s great work with the editing.
Your punctuation and grammar is really good throughout the entire book. Movies titles should always be capitalized and, if you want, italicized to address a copyrighted title. There were no major issues to point out in the spelling department, so kudos to you. The only two suggestions I have are: A) to use less daily vernacular- like ‘otay’ and ‘turd’. It tends to take away from your style of writing in my opinion. Word choices are important when you are trying to establish yourself as a serious author. B) When writing dialogue, which you have a lot of in your book- yay, try to break it up a bit by putting the quotation marks in different places.
See below:
⌾ “How are you doing?” I heard Jesse ask.
Trying not to show my mood I replied with a fake smile, “Fantastic! What about you?”
From what I read (1-30), I got that Niall and Jesse were in a relationship, broke up, and then got back together before they got into a car crash and Jesse lost her memory up until the day before she met Niall. There was drama between Chad, who’s gay, Demi, and Liam. Jesse started singing in addition to acting. Those were the main things I pulled out, I didn’t want to bring in a ton of detail.
Overall this is a pretty good book Jesse. Hopefully you’ll take into account these key points. Thank you for requesting a review. If you’d like, I can do another once you’re further into your book. Please tell me what you think of the review in the comments section below. (:
