Twenty : Harry
When Saffron said her parent’s would have a lot to say, she wasn’t kidding. When she called me the next day after her parent’s had found out about our public friendship-but-actually-more-than-that-in-secret, they’d wasted no time in coming down on her.
Her mum wasn’t too fazed really, but her dad was furious. He wanted to be consulted because this was a big thing we were doing. He knew everything that came with Saffron being thrown into the public eye – on a small and big scale alike. And now, since we were going public, her father wanted to officially meet me. Yeah. So much for going slow.
So on a cold November night, when I pulled into the Davies driveway, I was more nervous than I'd ever been coming over. After jumping out of my car, I made my way to the front door with a bottle of wine in my hand. I was underage but it was a dinner with a very classy man so I thought it was appropriate nonetheless.
Saffron answered the door when I knocked. She smiled when she saw me, I couldn't tell if she was nervous or not, she was always good with hiding her emotion. After giving her a quick kiss to the cheek, she led me to the kitchen.
Her dad was in front of the stove with Coral by his side. I placed the wine on the bench and when they turned around to look at me, Coral came bouncing over. I was quick to wrap her in a hug and give her hair a slight ruffle. "Hi Coral! How are you darling?"
"Good," she dragged out happily. "I've missed you!"
"I missed you too," I replied, referring to the gap where Saffron and I weren't talking.
Saffron's dad cleared his throat so I stood up straighter. "Hello Mr Davies, it's nice to finally meet you. I'm Harry."
"I know who you are," he grumbled, shaking my hand firmly.
I dropped my gaze awkwardly and Saffron rolled her eyes. "Oh don't be so rude, dad." She grabbed my hand. "Come on Harry, let's set the table."
I followed her through to the dining room and as soon as we were out of earshot and she was grabbing china from the cupboard I widen my eyes and made a face. "He hates me."
"Don't be ridiculous. He's just wary." She rolled her eyes again and put her fingers up in air quotes. "I'm just his 'little girl'."
"I don't like it when people hate me," I said quietly.
She stopped what she was doing and came over to me. She grabbed my hands in hers and grinned up at me playfully. "Naww, you're truly adorable." She pressed a soft kiss to my lips. "Don't worry, once he gets to know you, he'll adore you just like the rest of the world."
I groaned lowly despite myself causing Saffron to roll her eyes once again and give me a light slap to the cheek. "Help me set the table."
I did as I was told and just as we finished, Coral and her father came out to serve the food. We all sat at the table and Mr Davies wasted no time in grilling me. "So Harry, I understand you're part of One Direction?"
I nodded my head and finished chewing my meat before saying, "Yes sir."
Next to me, Coral giggled at my formal language. Even Saffron showed a hint of a smile. Mr Davies however, stayed stoic. "I suppose I should like you considering you rake in a lot of the company's income."
I didn't know how to take that comment but luckily I didn't have to decide because Saffron spoke up. "No work talk at the table thanks."
Mr Davies ignored her. "You do realise your fame has brought to light my daughter's status, opening the door to her name and background."
