Twenty Four : Harry

When Saffron and I agreed to go full public-which I was stoked about-I didn't realise it would be such a big affair. We were thinking a small lunch where the paparazzi caught us holding hands but nothing like going to the British Fashion Awards together which management suggested. But I think that was to do with publicity.

And even though Saffron and I kind of wanted to disagree with them, we knew that they were giving us a free pass by making the decision of going public ourselves. So sucking it up, we made plans of the big unveil which included:

1. Going to London on different days.

2. Spending the time before the Awards Show a part.

3. Going to the Awards show together but staying tight-lipped about anything in the interviews beforehand.

4. Hold hands during the show and act like a couple at the after-party.

So all in all, management were trying to make this a moment the press would eat up and hopefully label us as the cute couple. Because they wanted to keep me cute and not the womanizing villain they sometimes printed me as.

A week before I was set to leave, I got a call from my mother.

"Hey mum," I answered.

"Harold Edward Styles, how come you didn't inform me you were coming to London next week!" she screeched back with.

I cringed and mouthed a silent curse. "Sorry mum, I completely forgot. It just slipped my mind, I've been so busy lately."

Her voice softened instantly. "It's okay sweetheart. You are going to come visit us though, right?"

"Of course, mum. How about the day after the awards? I'll stay for a few days," I answered as I got ready to go to work.

"Good. So how have you been? Anything new?"

I paused. "Um ... Saffron and I have decided to go officially public."

"Oh wow! That's great, honey. Are you sure though? It's a big deal," she replied.

I got into my car and put the phone on speaker. "Yeah, we're sure. We just need the freedom."

"So when are you doing it? I don't want to be blindsided."

"At the Awards show," I explained. "She's going to be my date."

"What? Harry? Then bring her home afterwards!"

My eyes went wide, I'd never even factored that in. I winced. "Um-"

"Don't even try and argue with me, son. I want to meet her," my mum said firmly.

Then in the background, I heard, "I want to meet her too!"

"See," mum said, "Gemma wants to meet her too. So if you don't show up with her, you're going to be getting an earful."

"But-"

"Bye Harry!"

"Mum-"

The line went dead.

I swore to myself. Maybe Saffron would get along with my mum-they seemed to love cutting me off a lot.

Quickly grabbing my phone and taking a deep breath, I sent a text to Saffron.

'so we're going to see my family after the show in London. Yay! xx'

I threw my phone on the seat next to me and ran a hand through my hair. It's not that I didn't want to introduce Saff to my family-because I did-it was just that, the last time I introduced my girlfriend to them-namely Taylor Swift-they really didn't like her.
