~Hell~
I woke to the sound of muffled voices filtering though the crack of the slightly open door. A thin beam of waxy golden light unique to the underworld cut through the inky blackness of the room and faded out halfway across the floor of the large bedroom, stopping a few feet short of the sizeable four poster bed where I lay. I pulled sluggishly against the thick blankets that covered me for a short time but found that my arms would not cooperate and let them fall back against the mattress with a dull thud.
"-absolutely not, it cannot be allowed to happen again let alone be encouraged."
The second half of a conversation crawled through the darkness to my curious ears, dragging me the last distance out of sleep.
"Whether we trigger it or not, it will happen again. And she must learn how to control it Asmodeus."
"You know as well as I do that she cannot control that amount of power, did you not see the raikes? It could tear her apart next time, if we weren't there the damage she could have caused would have been unthinkable, if we hadn't stopped it then, it would have been unstoppable. And you're telling me that you want to encourage it again? Draw that darkness out of her? It took four of us to stop it, and more power than I have ever personally had to use to subdue anything, are you out of your damn mind Leviathan?"
"Whether I myself want this to happen or not is irrelevant, we both know that it must, and that it will. We also know that father will insist upon it, what is the use of a pet that can only destroy the furniture? He wants a trained attack dog, not a nuisance. And he has commanded us to deliver him that. As you say it took the combined strength of four of us to control even a small outburst, the raikes were entirely unexpected, and I cannot do this alone."
Asmodeus scoffed at his brother, his noise of disbelief hovered over the edge of an angry growl.
"There is the more pressing reason of course that if she cannot be trained father will have her locked up for the rest of eternity. And that, despite having the undisputed power to defend herself, without control over it, she cannot hope to survive an attack." I could sense the concern in Leviathan's voice as he tried to convince Asmodeus to help control me for my own sake. But there were only two words that I heard as he spoke.
Locked up.
I sat up suddenly, determinedly shaking off the heaviness of my limbs that pinned me to the sheets.
Locked up??
My subconscious repeated again with a mixture of confusion, anger, and a small amount of fear. I knew that he could do it if he wanted to. The Devil could just ask me to walk into a cage and with one look of his indescribable eyes I would run in gladly, locking myself in and throwing away the key.
I threw off the heavy covers and found I had been dressed in a white lace nightgown, but to my relief I couldn't find any shackles. I slipped over the edge of the bed and walked across to the wall opposite the door on silent feet. There was no way I was going to be locked up, and I sure as hell wasn't going to be anybody's 'attack dog'. I scratched away at the floral printed wallpaper that covered the rock and placed my palm to it. The satisfying cool calmed me instantly, and I found myself revelling momentarily in the familiarity of the substance beneath my skin.
I sent out my wordless command and waited... wait, why was I waiting? I opened my eyes in confusion and sent out the command again, for the second time nothing happened.
