I remember being pulled backwards quickly through blackness, a sudden rush and then blinding white.Against all odds, I woke up suddenly. I woke up and immediately began ripping IV's out of my arms, pulling the ventilator out of my lungs. Nurses ran in as alarms blared and my mom yelled for help. They tied me down and sedated me and I settled down back into the haze of drugs.
The last thing I remember before falling asleep was my mom's face, teary eyed and smiling as she stood over me.

"What is it?" I asked.
"Oh well, it's nothing sweetie, it's nothing important."
I looked away from my mom and sighed, deciding to concentrate on the little people walking around on the street outside the hospital. It had been three weeks since I had woken up, and I had only just convinced myself that this was reality. It was impossible that I had dreamed all of that, how could it have been just a dream? I mean, I was used to my mind wandering, but there is no way I was that imaginative. It all felt so real, it, it had to be real.
I could still feel my mom staring at me as she sat at the end of my bed. I tugged absently at the sleeve of my hospital gown before turning my attention back to her. She had barely left the room to pee since I had woken up, and according to the nurses she had been there the whole time I was out too. God knows what I'd done to deserve that kind of dedication, I'm pretty sure the only thing I'd given her since I learned to talk was sass. Either way I can't say I wasn't grateful for her staying, in fact, I don't think I could've gotten through it without her.
"Spit it out mom, I know you've got something to say."
"Well it's just that-" she faltered again and I raised my eyebrows.
"Mom, whatever it is I'm pretty sure I can handle it." I sighed again, images of everything I supposedly hadn't been through flickering through my mind. How could it have been just a dream?
"Well honey I don't really know how to tell you this...but... well, you're pregnant."
Seconds ticked by and still my expression remained vacant. I stared at the wall behind my mom.
Pregnant. I am...pregnant....
HOW AM I PREGNANT?
Just then a busy looking doctor shuffled into the room, stethoscope bouncing on his chest as he came to an abrupt stop at my bedside.
"Good morning Miss Jones, I do believe today is your last day with us. If all is well that is."
He took a pen from his top pocket and clicked it as he picked up the clipboard from the end of my bed. Scanning the pages briefly he flashed me a sunny smile and scribbled a note on the paper.
"Everything seems to be in order. You are free to leave, I want you to be sure that you take your medications on time, and if anything changes you come straight back to us alright?"
I nodded silently.
"Alright." Another warm smile and he was gone as quickly as he had appeared.
"Come on then sweetie," my mom said after I remained completely motionless. "Let's get to the car."
"Jamie...." I murmured.
"What was that hon?" my mom questioned absently as she handed me a change of clothes from an overnight bag.
"Huh? Oh nothing." I replied, quickly taking them from her and pulling on the pair of pants under my gown.
It must have been god damn Jamie Tiller at Jenny's party. I thought peevishly. I'd fooled around with him a little at Jenny Giulio's house party before I'd been hit by a car. I could have sworn I didn't sleep with him but... there was no other explanation.
I am going to kill that boy.
I huffed and dragged the t-shirt over my head.

"Don't forget your seatbelt." My mom said as she put the keys into the ignition and reversed out of her spot in the hospital parking lot.
"Right." I said absently, pulling it over me and listening to the gentle click as it slotted into place. Everyday things like driving in a car felt so out of place. I turned on the radio to try to drown out my absent thoughts but the noise sounded wrong. I sighed and turned it off, resting my head against the cool glass of the window and watching the outside world as it rolled past.
The traffic lights near the exit of the hospital turned red, and I looked over to the people starting to cross. Some guy in a black hoodie stood waiting even though everyone else was walking. The overconfident way he held himself annoyed me for some reason, and I found myself inexplicably drawn to the muscular slope of his shoulders. The lights turned green and just as we started to drive away he looked up. A shocked gasp left my mouth at the sight of his cocky grin, at his raven black hair. With a very deliberate wink of his ruby eyes he melted away back into the crowd.
