It had been three days since I had fallen into Asmodeus's underground study and despite all of my protests I was still under constant surveillance, and I mean constant, they wouldn't even let me pee alone. I had gained inside knowledge from my maid Ossovae that today was a rotation of the guards and I planned to lose them the first chance I got, what can I say? I like my privacy.
I was sat reading one of the four books that was actually in semi-recent English, the choice was not great. My options were a dictionary, a Victorian cookery book, the Holy Bible and Bridget Jones's Diary of all things. Ossovae sat across from me, reading a book in what I now called Demonese (because I couldn't physically pronounce the name of their language) and by the door stood my two guards. Every time I moved, they moved, it was really starting to bug me.
There was a very specific reason for my trip to the library, and it wasn't Bridget Jones. After a brief conference with the rock whilst my guard's backs were turned I had discovered that although most rooms had wallpaper or plaster over the walls, there was a space in the library where the shelves themselves had been formed from rock, by the side of the windows, and this was my door in. Armed with this secret knowledge I stood and drifted innocently over to them, with the guise of looking out at the scenery below I waited. The guards were to be rotated at 12am, it was now 11:58. I could feel the suspicious looks directed at me but I knew they were distracted by the fact that their shift ended in two minutes. I was also aware that they hadn't been told the exact details of what I could do, only instructed to not allow me near to walls. Which I wasn't, I was by the window and a bookcase. They were much faster than me so I knew I only had seconds to carry out my plan, I brushed my fingertips over the pin I had hidden in my sleeve and clicked my tongue impatiently.
A loud sharp knock on the door coincided with the chimes of the clock, now was my chance. I jabbed the pin into my palm and forced the small bead of blood to the surface. The door opened. My guards turned. And I was gone.
The unrelenting darkness was no longer intimidating. In fact I was beginning to feel more at home within the rock than out of it. I leant back and inhaled deeply, the buoyancy of the strange material was particularly satisfying and I allowed myself to float for a while, safe in the knowledge that they couldn't get me out of the wall no matter how hard they tried. The rock welcomed me back.
Want to go have some fun? I asked.
The rock surged around me and returned me upright. ~I will show you something good! ~ It sang. A spacious tunnel formed ahead of me and I began to walk, the information of my surroundings coming only from the mind of the rock. Where are we going? I asked it. The tunnel warped suddenly and took a sharp left, then a right, and then a left again. ~Faster faster! ~ it chimed. My pace faltered as a great surge of liquid rock knocked my feet out from under me, rushing forward like a wave towards the beach.
Jeez calm down! It only sped up in response. "WHERE ARE WE GOING??" I yelled before being catapulted head first out of the wall and into a vast room.
I sat up and rubbed my head before turning around and yelling at the wall.
"Give me some warning next time you idiot! Jesus... what was all that abou-" my words were cut short as I looked around the room it had taken me to. Floor to ceiling it was covered with enormous crystal clusters, amethyst, quartz and rose quartz, citrine and countless others all sparkled and glittered like underground stars in the subdued light of the old oil lamps mounted in the walls. It was like magic.
"Woah..." I mumbled to myself.
"And here I was, barely believing the rumours were true. But to see with one's own eye, that is the surest way to put doubts to rest, is it not Miss Jones?"
I whipped around to the direction of the unfamiliar voice and was struck down by the phenomenal beauty of the man before me.
"Wh-who are you?" I stammered, staring wide eyed at the immaculately tailored white suit and honey gold curls that regarded me with wonder from across the room.
"Leviathan," he bowed deeply, red eyes glinting like the crystals that surrounded us. His movements were fluid and dangerous, like a hunting cat. I slowly backed towards the rock, hoping I would be able to slip back into the safety of its walls before he could catch me. His keen eyes glimmered with amusement, and quicker than I could see he was behind me, blocking my exit. His white gloved hand trailed along my cheek, tenderly tucking a stray lock of my long raven hair behind my ear.
"Pleased to make your acquaintance." He bent down and placed a gentle kiss on my cheek, my heart nearly exploded. I felt his lips curl up into a smug smile against my skin. "It is rather rude to leave before the proper introductions have been made." He chided me humorously.
He walked around to my front and took my chin in his right hand, studying my face, ruby eyes boring into emerald. I couldn't help but let my eyes wander across his perfect face, the arch of his brow, the curve of his lips... those lips. I suddenly felt the irresistible urge to lean forward to close the short distance between us. His lips looked so soft, so inviting. I searched my brain for any reason why I shouldn't. I could find none. In fact it seemed like it would be rude if I didn't. The ruby at my neck began to get warmer, pulling me back. I shushed it, I was only going to kiss him, what was the big deal? My eyes flickered back up to his and they were alight, compelling me closer, I submitted to his gaze, leaning forward the last few centimetres...
"Leviathan." A voice hissed from the doorway, seething with rage.
"Asmodeus." Leviathan straightened swiftly and turned to face him, removing his hand from my face. The break in contact seemed to instantly lift an invisible haze from around me. I blinked in surprise for a few moments, as the realisation of what I was doing finally hit me.
"Step away from her, before I take this little lapse of yours as a challenge."
"And why would you feel compelled to do something like that?" Leviathan replied, a hint of acid seeping through his gentlemanly appearance.
"You know full well that she is marked, don't play with me Levi."
"Oh I saw the mark, you never were one for subtlety, brother mine. I was simply checking that it worked. Though why exactly you decided that you should own her is still quite the mystery."
"She was found in my district, and so is under my protection."
"Ha! Protection?" he scoffed "Is that what why you used a slave strings enchantment? If you were mine my dear, I would have adorned you with something much more tasteful." Leviathan said, turning to me.
...slave strings?
"Drop it Levi." Asmodeus warned.
"I don't think it ought to be dropped." Leviathan seethed "To adorn such a rarity with an enchantment suited to any common whore is more than unacceptable."
I saw Asmodeus stiffen at that, this had gone far enough. I moved forward and very deliberately stepped in between them with my arms outstretched.
"Will both of you stop it?!" I yelled "First of all, I am not owned by ANYBODY, secondly YOU are going to take this piece of shit off of me as soon as we are done here," I jabbed at necklace angrily "and thirdly will someone please tell me what the HELL is going on here?"
