The missing Father (#1 in the series)

A walk in the woods

We were at the woods. Woah This place is really beautiful, the trees were so green and tall. There was a path leading into the woods and on each side of the path there were ferns and ivy.

"Well Toothless I can't see why you wouldn't want to hide here". I said.

Toothless walks into the woods sniffing the ground to see if he could find anything I followed him.

The forest was filled with birch trees, some scots pine, and sycamores. They all had bright green leaves, with thick branches at the bottom of the trees. Perfect for climbing.

"Hey Toothless the place is good for climbing". I said looking up at a tree.

I pulled myself up on the branch and sat there. There were branches all around. Toothless made a roar to tell me to be careful.

"Don't worry, I'll be careful, I have climbed trees before". I said.

I walked along the branches and went from tree to tree, while Toothless was keeping his eyes out for anything. I was as well because I could see a lot from up here.

15 minutes later, I think I'm not entirely to sure. I got bored of looking at the ground and around me.

"Toothless". I called. "We should stop to have a break". 

He agreed, by walking up to the tree I was sitting in and decided to take a nap.

We sat in the woods, for a couple of minutes, enjoying the atmosphere and the surroundings.

The air was very still around, and was it was so quite all you hear where the birds tweeting. I felt so calm being in these woods, so did Toothless. I couldn't really care less if there has been murders in these woods, nothing was going to stop us enjoying the woods.

Suddenly Toothless's ears prickled up and he turned is head in the direction we just came in. He gave me a warning look.

"Toothless stay down, until we now what's going on". I suggested.

Toothless lowed in himself down, and trying to hide in the ivy, but it wasn't good Toothless stood out in the green.

I climbed a bit higher into the tree, where I was only a couple of meters from the ground. I could see the path we just walked on, now I could see why he sensed something.

Man this guy is everywhere. Can't I go anywhere without seeing him.

"Toothless". I whispered he looked at me. "It's inspector Mallory keep low".

As inspector Mallory walked down the path, he was looking down at the ground until he stopped at the bottom of the tree I was in.

Uh oh I think it spotted Toothless or his tail fin. I don't really like that red tail fin, it really stands out in almost any surrounding.

"I know you are here, you can't hide from me. Goodfellow said you were coming here anyway". He sighed.

Toothless gave up he got up and looked at the inspector.

"Oh hello, now if you are here, where is she?". He asked.

Toothless shrugged his shoulders, and looked up to where I was.

Carefully and quietly I climbed down the tree without him noticing me.

"Inspector, didn't think I would see you here". I said.

Inspector Mallory got a shock, he turned around to see me. I jumped down off the branch and walked next to Toothless.

"What's brings you here?". I asked.

"Well to warn you about these woods". He replied.

"Oh...I have just came here to look for clues". I said.

"Don't think you'll find any, I already went looking through here yesterday". He said.

Toothless got fed up and began to wander off. Down the path, further into the woods.

"Toothless wait up". I called, but he just kept walking.

Inspector Mallory sighed, then followed us. Toothless was looking at the ground, like he knew something was there waiting to be found.

"Sorry". I panted. "Toothless isn't normally like this".

"It's fine, I'd be surprised if he finds anything". Mallory said.

Suddenly Toothless stopped, causing me to almost trip up. He must of caught the scent of something, he began sprinting along the path. Roaring every so often to tell me to go and follow him.

I followed Toothless, leaving Inspector Mallory to walk be himself.

After walking for a while trying to catch up with Toothless. He stopped again sniffing the ground, then he looked up at me with those green eyes saying he has found something.

I bent down to see what he has found. It was a slingshot, and looked at it very carefully.

"Toothless look". I pointed, there were some letters caved into the stick saying F.B. "F B standing for...Father Brown, well done Toothless". I said stroking him under the chin.

He was very pleased with himself, so was I. Father Brown must of dropped it to leave a clue, or maybe he accidentally dropped it

"The Fathers emergency slingshot is what I call it". I said to Toothless.

"What have you found here then". The inspector said. Looking to see what I had in my hands.

"Nothing" I lied. Covering up the evidence so he couldn't see what it was.

"I can arrest you, for removing evidence from a crime scene". He noted.

"It's just a stick really". I lied.

"Give it here". He said starting to get annoyed.

I shook my head. What would he do with it anyway. Oh gods I just realised I put my fingerprints on the slingshot.

"If you want it". I said getting up, I was about to run, so was Toothless. "You gotta catch me first".

And just like that Toothless and I ran back down the path, where we came from.
