“Shelby!” Lacey screamed as soon as I walked into the room. I smiled at her my eyes roaming her white princess wedding dress. It fell perfectly on her showing off her slim frame and actuating her bust.
“Lacey you look gorgeous!” I exclaimed waving my hands at her.
She laughed waving her hand at me, “Oh don’t look so surprised,” she said putting her hand on her hip striking a pose.
I laughed letting my eyes wonder around the dressing room. It was huge with make-up standing in the middle of the room making a square. I saw four other girls running around frantically trying to put last minute touches on.
I looked back at Lacey seeing her mouthing something to Dean, who was standing behind me. As she caught my eyes she smiled guilty and looked me over, “You look hot!”
I smiled at her and did a twirl showing her the back of the dress she awed making me chuckle again. “Do you need anything before I head off to find Chad?” I asked.
“Yes a strong stiff drink!” she said throwing her hands in the air, “They won’t let me near the alcohol.”
“It seems likes you’ve had enough already,” Dean said beside.
She scowled at him her arms crossing over her chest like a mother scolding her child. “I have not had one sip of alcohol today,” she stated looking smug.
“Right,” Dean muttered rolling his eyes. Lacey opened her mouth to argue but a bridesmaid ran up and started whispering frantically in her ear.
Lacey’s eyes rolled and she huffed stomping her foot lightly, “Alright I’ll be there in a minute.” She turned back to us smiling apolitically, “I’m so sorry, but I have so much to do today. Hopefully I’ll see you afterwards.”
I smiled back at her showing I didn’t mind, not wanting to upset her on her big day. Dean agreed to meet up with her later and placed his hand on the small of my back guiding me out of the dressing room. I ignored the feeling swirling in my stomach from the small touch.
I wondered down the hallway Dean walking silently beside me chewing on his lip thoughtfully. He ran a hand through his hair messing it up, but not seeming like he really cared. “So how have you been? Honestly.”
I ran my tongue over my teeth considering telling him the truth. Wanting to be honest with him, but at the same time I didn’t want him to know how awful I handled it. The way I acted was childish and I wish more than anything I could change the way I acted.
At the same time though I was kind of grateful, even though it changed my relationship with my parents forever. It changed me forever, it helped me grow and realize what is really important in life.
“Well,” I started stopping beside a bench sitting beside the wall. I sat down patting the space next to me making Dean sit beside me. “I’m doing much better now. Therapy will do wonders when your mother makes you go every day.”
I stopped looking at him seeing him staring at the ground in front of him not saying anything. “The hardest part on me was losing Ava afterwards,” I whispered my throat burning as her name passed my lips. “It was my fault I was the one who walked away, but I regret it every single day.”
His head shot up to me his eyes burning, “Why have you not told her this? She is your best friend she will understand.”
I shook my head looking away from him, “Dean it isn’t that easy.”
“Bullshit!” he exclaimed standing up. I looked around my eyes wide at him cursing in a church, but he just ignored me staring me down. “For the past few weeks the two of us have be miserable and you’re finally making progress, but I promise you Shelby if you do not make things right with Ava you will not be happy.”
