The awkward moment continued no one knowing what to say. My eyes were glued to the floor and I felt my cheeks redden. Damn my mouth, I couldn't keep it shut for the life of me!
"Well son I guess she didn't want you staring at her," Mr. Bradley said.
I looked up meeting Jayden's eyes and he smiled slightly, "Sorry I shouldn't have been so rude," I said almost whispering.
"It's fine, I should be use to you being rude by now," Jayden said with a careless laugh.
I smiled back at him and he kind of stopped laughing and started staring at me again, but instead of my body he was staring at my face. My face flushed slightly and I was shocked at the way I was acting. I was acting like some stupid little girl, like the girls that fall all over him, the one's he always ignores.
"Do you two already know each other?" My mother asked.
"Yes, we go to school together. We have since Shelby moved in 8th grade," Jayden answered my mom.
My eyebrows raised on their own accord, "How did you know when I moved to school, we didn't even have our first conversation until the other day?"
"That doesn't mean I did not notice you," He stated sternly.
My dad cleared his throat and asked if everyone would mind stepping into the dinning room. Mom and Dad sat beside each other and sat Layla at the head of the table. Mr. and Mrs. Bradley sat on the other side meaning I was going to be seated either right beside Layla and Jayden or Jayden and his mother. I, very ungracefully in my dress, scurried to the seat beside Layla.
I heard Jayden stifle a laugh at my display and my mother eyed me making me drop my head looking at my hands in my lap.
"Joel, you did not tell me your daughter was so beautiful," Mr. Bradley said to my dad, "I might have set these two up on a date before now," He winked at Jayden and I felt my eyes widen in shock.
"He is kidding Shelby, he didn't start working at the same lab as your father until a few weeks ago," Mrs. Bradley said to me.
I smiled at her, "I noticed I haven't seen y'all at any of the Balls before."
"Oh are you excited about going?" She asked excitedly.
I laughed at her beaming face, "I have been to many of them and I haven't had much fun, so honestly no."
"Why didn't you have fun?"
I grimaced and looked at my dad making sure he was engrossed in a conversation with Mr. Bradley before I answered, "Well Dad usually sets me up with Jameson, he is the weirdest kid I have ever met. Last time he took me he brought a bug in his pocket for 'good luck'."
Mrs. Bradley burst out laughing, she laughed so hard and long that Mom quit messing with Layla and Dad and Mr. Bradley quit talking to stare at her.
"Oh I am quite fond of your daughter Carrie, she is a pistol," She said wiping her eyes catching the tears from her laughter.
My mom looked at me questioningly, usually when I meet parents I was quiet. Never rude though, I would not be able to be rude to a parent, I was raise to respect people older than me.
"Yes, she entertains us all the time," Mom said grinning at me. I guess she was finally happy to see me interacting at one of our dinners.
"I'll go get the food," Mom said standing up. Mrs. Bradley stood as well offering to help, which my mother gladly accepted.
"Did you know that I was going to be your date to the Ball?" Jayden asked me.
I looked at him and shook my head, "Dad couldn't remember your name and he forgot your last name. Did you know?"
