***Shelby’s POV
I took a deep breath, “Okay well when I was 13 I met this guy named Dean, he was the total bad boy type. I hate to admit it, but I am a major sucker for the bad boys so I was instantly attracted to him,” memories rushed in my head and I had to take another breath to settle my nerves.
“It should have been a major red flag that a 18 year old would even be interested in a 13 year old, but I never gave it a second thought at the time. He always bought me expensive things and through money around like nobody’s business. I came from a wealthy family and the way he spent it still shocked me. One day I got up the nerve and asked him how he got all this money from. He never worked he spent all of his time with me,” I stopped talking looking at Jayden gauging his reaction.
He nodded encouragingly and I looked down, this is where it got really hard.
“He said he didn’t want to lie to me that he wanted me to know everything about him. He told me he was an in control of a very powerful gang, one that was heavily in the drug trade. He never told me what the name of his gang was, incase he got arrested I wouldn’t get in trouble if I didn’t know a lot. At first I didn’t worry about it, I didn’t care what he did for a living I loved him. Then one day I was at his house hanging out, when there was a banging on his front door and someone yelling. He told me to go upstairs and hide and not to come down until he came to get me,” I felt tears well up in my eyes.
“I stood at the top of the stairs behind a wall listening, after a few minutes I heard him open the door. There were four or five voices, I don’t remember exactly what was said but I remember a man begging for them to have mercy. I heard Dean yelling at him ‘You don’t have my money!’ he spat in his face and I heard a crack of something hitting the man. The man apologized profusely and begged him to spare him, he said he had children he had a wife. The next thing I heard was the bang of the gun and something hit the floor. I ran downstairs to see a man slumped forwards on the floor and Dean standing there with a gun pointed at him. I screamed and yelled at him asking him how he could do this.”
Tears fell down my face at the memory; I stopped for a minute trying to collect myself. I kept my head down not being able to look at Jayden, not being able to see the look of disappointment of his face.
“When I ran into the room I had stopped beside this guy and I was so shocked I didn’t even notice him standing there. I guess he had gotten tired of me yelling at his boss so he reached back and backhanded me across the face. I hadn’t been expecting it so the blow knocked me off my feet. I heard another bang from the gun and saw the guy that had hit me fall to the ground. I looked at Dean and he tucked the gun in the back of his waistband and came over to me hugging me and rubbing my face saying ‘I will never let anyone hurt you.’ After that night I never went back over to Dean’s house, I couldn’t stand it the memory of the man begging for his life was burned into my memory and I will never be able to forget it.”
Tears were flowing down my face now and I felt Jay wrap his arms around me as I cried on his chest. “It’s okay Shelby it isn’t your fault,” he cooed softly.
“He shot him, he killed his friend just for slapping me,” I said crying harder. Jayden hugged me tighter and held me until I calmed down enough to finish my story.
“Well I never went out to parties with him, he would go and come back wasted and always trying to talking me into having sex with him. Which we never did by the way, I told you I was a virgin and meant it,” I said looking Jayden in the eye.
“One night he talked me into going to one with him. It was loud and there was people grinding on each other and groping each other. I didn’t see the appeal so I went upstairs to try and find a bathroom when I walked into this room and there was a girl about my age there. It was Ava, her brother was throwing the party and apparently he was apart of Dean’s gang. I stayed up there talking with her for a few hours until I decided to go and look for Dean. We exchanged numbers saying we would meet up again and I left her room. I wondered around downstairs looking everywhere for Dean and I could never find him. I went upstairs to see if he had gone up there and I opened one of the bedroom doors to find him having sex with some blond girl. I was so angry then, I screamed at him that it was over and I never wanted to see him again.”
